@Neil *****
I am not saying it’s an obligation to file the 8822 it’s just highly recommended

@Joe *******
so correct you still have to file as a U.S. citizen until your last day on earth for your taxes and your bank accounts in Thailand will be reported to the irs. But by precaution it’s recommended to inform in advance the irs of your departure with the form 8822. Better so you get notified of everything and you don’t have bad surprises

@Neil *****
if you don’t inform them in advance you may get issues with the irs. Happens a lot. It’s just an advice.

- Don’t forget to inform the irs for your taxes before leaving!

- tel your bank

And maybe see which bank in Thailand they partner with to open a bank account over there and help you with the withdrawals and exchange rates

- get yourself a health insurance working in Thailand. Some banks have some but better to compare.

- open a trust for your family in the U.S. … in case

- don’t bring too much with you because the rentals are fully furnished and clothes may not be adequate in Thailand and are cheap there.

And depending on your age and work they are all kind of visas now. Even digital nomad.
