TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat considering a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) based on stock investments has mixed opinions within the community. Key points include the necessity of providing proof of financial stability, typically requiring 500,000 THB in a bank account for at least three months. However, doubts exist regarding whether unrealized gains or mere paper profits suffice as income proof for the visa application. Many suggest exploring alternative methods, like obtaining a soft power visa or establishing a legitimate freelancing status, could ease the visa process.

Trader here and yes you can. Depends how you set your tax status up.

Proof of Financial Stability: A minimum amount of 500,000 THB (or its equivalent in other currencies) in a savings, deposit, or checking account for at least 3 months. Financial statements showing up to 6 months of transaction history along with proof of income sources may be required by some embassies.

Supporting Documents for Visit Purpose: Include evidence that aligns with your intended purpose of stay:

Remote Work: A letter confirming employment from the employer that allow you to do remote work in Thailand.

Freelance Work: Portfolio, income statements, and possibly past tax returns.

That probably will not work, but it depends on the country you are applying. Try this instead. Set yourself up an independent financial advisor, get a Independent Contractor Agreement from the internet. Sign a contractor agreement with a relative with a different name, Create an invoice for a percentage of the gain. You can use the Brokerage Statement as evidence. You still need to meet all the other requirements.

Sounds dodgy. Another anonymous account. Thailand attracting the best professionals 🥱

what's wrong with an anonymous account. It's far smarter.

Good for you. Hope you realised the gain so you can show it as instant accessible cash to the embassy. Seasoned for 3 months, some require 6. You need much less that your amazing earnings.

@Rok *******
some require it for 1 day

Enroll in thai boxing language or cooking class and you can. Pull money out of investments to a bank account for saving requirements

What does on paper mean? Does that mean paper trading, or unrealized gains? If you can show a steady income on realized gains over a substantial time ( over 2 years, 5 years is best) and a seperate checking or saving account with the the required 500k for 3 months then you might have a chance but like everybody else says you can just sign up for a 6 month soft power course and save yourself all the trouble.

Wise advice ✅

I paint million dollar artworks "on paper" too
Dom ********
Just do soft power, all you need on the financial side is to prove 500k thb in a bank account

@Dom *******
I do not know why people make it hard on themselves. Take the path of least resistance as you suggest.
Sam ******
@Greg *******
because soft power is much more expensive, not really that challenging to work out why people would rather save 50,000 baht.

Using soft power option over the whole five years would likely cost hundreds of thousands vs 0 baht for the workcation option.

@Sam *****
not of read reports anywhere that you need to do another course? Get soft power medical - everyone needs dental work

I agree if you qualify for Workaytion and it is a straight forward application go for it. It is much easier to extend in country too. If you have own limited company or working for another company with all documentation it is easy enough. It does not look like the poster above can do this though. We are not seeing anyone yet have to pay for more SP courses if they do border runs.

You might be able to if you can show your actually trading and earning a living from it along with paying tax but just making a paper profit I'd say no

Just learn Muay Thai on the side
Tim ******
So were you paper trading, or trading with real money ?
David ***********
@Tim *****
or has he not realised his gains yet..
Tim ******
@David **********
That's what I'm trying to figure out. If It's paper trading, then no. If it's unrealized gains, then it's all good.
David ***********
@Tim *****
he didnt say paper trading..he said 'on paper'
Tim ******
@David **********
Which is paper trading, to us who trade.
David ***********
@Tim *****
do you not think that he means that he's not sold yet? Until you sell you haven't made or lost money. So his profits are on paper? I think you think he's messing around with a practice account?
Tim ******
@David **********
If you leave Australia full time. They tax you gain on what your portfolio is worth the day you leave. There is no paper profit. It’s real profit.
David ***********
@Tim *****
that sucks.
Tim ******
@David **********
Exit Tax. According to the government, there is no such thing as a paper profit.
Keith *****************
Are you working under contract for a company doing that? Even your own company?
