Good day everyone.

I've just been approved for a non o retirement visa. I applied in the UK. My Thai wife is with me. We are planning to return to Thailand late May.

What are the next steps I need to do to get the 12 months extension. Do I need to go to the British embassy? Do I need to get my passport translated?

Please explain to me in simple terms please. TIA

TLDR : Answer Summary
After receiving your Non-O retirement visa and planning your return to Thailand, the next steps include opening a Thai bank account to deposit 800,000 baht, which must remain in the account for 2 full calendar months for the visa extension process. Consult with the immigration office in your area for specific requirements since they may vary by location. Additionally, your wife will need to provide a TM30 form, which can be submitted online. Ensure to gather accurate information from reliable sources to avoid confusion.

Is there any reason why you are getting a retirement visa and not an extension of stay based on marriage? Itโ€™s only 400k in the bank then.

SunnyChestnut4369 because his Non-O was issued for the reason of retirement, the first extension must be for the reason the Non-O was issued

Sorry people. My Thai wife has a friend who is telling us what to do, but her advice is not good. It's making me confused. I've told my wife to stop listening to her friend as her advice is misleading.

I'll listen to you lot instead ๐Ÿ˜

If you don't already have a Thai bank account, you need to get that quickly, within a few weeks of arriving.

Then you transfer 800,000 baht into your Thai bank account. Once the funds have been in your Thai bank account for 2 full calendar months, you can then go to immigration and apply for the 1-year extension.

You should go to immigration as soon as you get the chance and ask them for their handout of requirements for your specific office. Each office has their own requirements, so you want the exact requirements from your office so you can prepare everything you need once your money is ready.

I'm going to live with my wife in sukhothai . By what you have said, I don't really need to stay in Bangkok to sort things out. Am I correct?

Shaun Devereux Your wife will need to provide you with a TM30 which will be needed for most interactions with Immigration. It can be easily done online.

no. Every province in Thailand has an immigration office. You need to use the office in the province where you're living
