What does the situation with tax residency look like if I exceed 180 days? Has anyone applied for and obtained a TIN? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Comments welcome please: digging deeper into the 180-day tax qualifying deadline for all visas, my understanding is that the 180 days are the total accumulated days spent within Thailand, summed across any and all visits, during any individual calendar year (1st January to 31st December).
That is, it is not, as most people seem to think, a single block of time where the counter begins whenever you last entered Thailand.
For example, here are two visits that do not individually qualify, but when summed, the total period is in excess of 180 days.
I entered Thailand on 9 December using my DTV visa. On arrival, I received an entry stamp valid until early June.
My question:
With this visa, can I enter and exit Thailand multiple times without issues, as long as the DTV visa itself is still valid? Or are there known cases where re-entry was questioned or refused?
I’m specifically looking for first-hand experiences (recent, preferably 2024/2025), not assumptions or hearsay.
I am a freelancer holding worcation DTV, currently staying in Chiang Mai. I am coming up to my first 180-day and have already bought a round-trip ticket (CNX- a city in Vietnam- CNX). I am staying in Vietnam for 3 days.
What issues should I expect at CNX immigration when I return? Thank you in advance.
Hi. Im trying to make sense of this DTV and Im constantly coming up with more questions the more I read!!!!
1) Is the 10.000 baht fee the full cost of the visa? (Without using an agent)
2) If accepted, do you only need to complete the first 6 months of the activity in the whole 5 years?
3) If accepted, are you required to leave EVERY 180 days and if so, how long do you need to be outside Thailand for and when you return, do you get another 180 day stamp?
4) Is teaching online accepted?
I am over 50 and would qualify for the Non-O retirement visa but I want to continue receiving an income rather than just watch my own bank account reduce as I age! You cannot jump from a retirement visa and then start working or at least that is what I was advised but that was over 5 years ago
Online teaching supplies me with enough to live on easily in Thailand so I would much prefer to take this route if I am eligible.
Hi. In the next few weeks my DTV is reaching 180 days. Since I don't want to go through IO I either plan a flight out or using a border run agency. What is the better/safer option to do it? I didn't find any information on DTV land border bounces so far.
I heard that you need to stay in Thailand for more than 180 days to become a tax resident. Does the 180 day count get reset if I leave the country and come back in?
When I travel to another country and return after the 180-day period is over, do I need to show any documents or can I pass with a visa and QR code? I plan to use fast track
