What are the costs and procedures for extending a stay in Thailand before hitting the 180 days limit?

Coming up on our first 180 days, I have a few questions.

If we decided to do the extension, what’s the cost?

If we extended at the end of our next 180 we have to leave, how long until we can come back?

Is it better to leave and come back before we hit the 180 days?

Thank you guys in advance for your suggestions and help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The cost for extending a visa in Thailand is 1900 baht. However, you need to prove that you meet the extension criteria again, which can be complicated. Some users suggest that it might be easier to leave Thailand and return instead of going through the extension process, as you would still need to leave after a single allowable extension.

Don't even think about an extension, it's a black hole. Leave and return to Thailand. Even after the single allowable extension per entry you must leave.

Look at the website of the local Immigration Office where you will extend, to see the requirements, or visit the Immigration to get their handout.

The extension is 1900 baht but you basically have to prove you meet the criteria all over again so you may find it easier just to leave and return
