TLDR : Answer Summary
Expats who have overstayed their visa in Thailand by less than 24 hours typically do not face a fine when departing the country by air. They will receive a special stamp rather than the usual overstay penalty. However, if the overstay exceeds 24 hours, fines apply. It's advisable to be prepared for potential inconsistencies at different airports; some may issue fines regardless of time overstay when departing by land.

Okay people I meant NO disrespect toward anyone by disagreeing about not being fined for an overstay of ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ 24 hours when you fly out ๐Ÿ˜•

I wasn't intentionally discounting your own personal experience getting a one day 500baht fine for overstay when you went to fly out (if indeed you did get that)

All I am saying (over and over) is it's a real rule, (overstay under 24 hours is not fined when you FLY out)

BUT

with that being said, you have to realize once you hit 24 hours you're fined for TWO days overstay (1000baht)..

Also as I said SOME airports used to try (and succeed) in charging people for one day overstay, in reality when you FLY out there is no such animal as a one day 500baht overstay fine.

Now exiting by land, you get fined the second you're a minute past your stamp date ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So by land you DO see 500baht overstay fines..

My apologies to anyone I offended. ๐Ÿ˜• Sorry 'bout that..

Good

Just rock up, and they will take you to the desk after stamping you in. Have a 500bht note in your wallet. They don't like handling change.

there is no 500 baht fine if the overstay is UNDER 24 hours

As a general rule IF your overstay is less than 24 hours and you're flying out you don't get fined the 500 baht and you don't get the "regular" overstay stamp in your passport.

Just a small thai only stamp that says "overstay under 24 hours fine waived"

make it to the airport to stamp out without an issue and you'll be okay..

thatโ€™s wrong . You get overstay as soon as you visa expire so if you visa expire on 10 January for example and you show up at the airport the 11 January at 2am tou will be fined 500thb ( already happen to me for less than 1h past the due date. The only time you wont get fines is if you apply for an extension and your last day is a sunday , immigration are closed on saturday and sunday so some of them wonโ€™t charge you the overstay but will still put the stamp on the passport.

, you are totally incorrect, and what part of UNDER 24 hours did you not glom onto..

As an example if you are flying out and have a stamp running out on Jan 10, you have until 11:59PM on the 10th to stamp out without 'being on overstay' BUT if you stamp out BEFORE 11:59pm Jan 11th you won't be fined.
