TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the concerns of a UK resident planning to travel to Thailand as a tourist, particularly regarding the potential for being stopped at the airport due to government travel restrictions linked to COVID-19. Comments suggest that while currently, many travelers are not being questioned, the situation may change based on health guidelines and the pandemic's development. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions about the validity of travel insurance while traveling against government advice.
If you know that the COVID situation in the UK is worse than it is in Thailand, if you are also aware that other countries are concerned at the particularly virulent strain the UK why would you even consider travelling and potentially putting others at risk?
No, that is to try and restrict the spread but it is pretty obvious that the best way to do this is to not travel until it is safe do so, that way we are considering each other rather than just ourself!
As a tourist you would be travelling against government advice and so your travel insurance would be invalid - you would also need separate Covid insurance to get into Thailand
at the moment all international travel is against government advice unless essential - so travelling anywhere in the world for tourism is likely to result in insurance problems
in the small print they will always have a clause about travelling against government advice - you would need to get an individual tailored policy to do so
You haven't given a date of when you're planning to leave UK. I would suggest you do it sooner rather than later. At the moment there are no reports of people being denied leaving as a tourist, but with the UK situation worsening, this could change in the coming weeks
I don’t really know, but many posts read that they’re not stopping anyone at the airport or even checking their reason for traveling. Perhaps you may get asked on the way to the airport but once there, with all the right paperwork you should be good to go.
