TLDR : Answer Summary
Many travelers from the UK are seeking advice on entering Thailand amid the UK's red list designation, which complicates travel plans. Key points discussed include the importance of obtaining insurance from Thai companies to ensure coverage, potential issues with UK-based insurance during travel to Thailand, and strategies for bypassing UK hotel quarantine by stopping over in amber list countries like Qatar or Spain. The consensus emphasizes that while essential travel to Thailand is still possible, travelers should prepare for potential travel insurance hurdles and the need for valid reasons for travel when flying.
KLM from the UK to Bangkok? Do they really ask you why you are traveling, I thought you are allowed to travel to a red list country but you just cannot return without quarantine or am I wrong?
I said I was not coming back till next year and that it was not a holiday, I was waiting there a while, she took her time checking everything and asking questions but all worked out

Could you do that go to Thailand then fly to a amber country for a short holiday to avoid quarantine in the Uk
I have to fly back on the 21 Sep to the uk but I will do 12 days in Qatar Doha stop over in a hotel spoke to the airline and no charge to more my return flight from Doha to london , the hotel cost Β£950 with breakfast and has a pool and can walk around the city , itβs better than sitting in a uk hotel for Β£2,285 , Qatar is on the Amber list
Red list is only concerned with your return to UK.
Biggest problem now is Foreign Office advice which has been updated to say "essential travel only" to the whole of Thailand.
Doesn't mean you can't go but does mean that most, if not all UK companies will not insure you for travel to Thailand.

I am planning on coming in October from the U.K. I was coming for 4 weeks but now I will come for 17 days then on my way back I will spend ten days in Spain
The only real difference since Thailand going on UK red list is the need to hotel quarantine on return to UK. Insurance maybe an issue as could be invalid if you use a UK insurance company. I would suggest to get insurance from Thailand based company and then you will have no issues with insurances.
David what about refused travel by the airline or airport

Everything is normal to go to.Thailand..my suggestion is take out Thai insurance and fly with either Emirates Qatar or Singapore..the fun and games start when you head back to the UK..
you legally allowed to travel anywhere..no one can stop you.earlier in the year the UK did have a form of not being allowed to travel to any country for holiday purposes..but that is all done away with now...
