TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarity on whether they can present a rental agreement, a Thai driver's license, a Thai bank account, and a motorbike green book as legitimate reasons to leave the UK and travel to Thailand, despite current restrictions against non-essential travel. Community members suggest that as long as it's a legitimate reason related to essential needs, the government shouldn't stop them. Many share their experiences, indicating that travelers have not faced questioning at airports, and emphasize the importance of demonstrating the need to travel, especially when moving back to Thailand.

From what I have read and heard, nobody is being challenged at the airport to travel to Thailand. Possibly because anyone prepared to fly halfway round the world and then stay in ASQ at their own expense for 15 days isn’t a typical tourist. The government are trying to stop people taking unnecessary flights.

My wife flys in in March not seen her for almost 14 months had to jump through a million f••••••g hoops and spent almost £8000 on visa process for her actual visa with medical (they even tested her for TB ffs 🤦‍♂️ ) be glad when all this guff is over with ! We have a home out there but we won’t be returning to it anytime soon, got a house sitter in to take care of it ..

What visa are you coming to Thailand on?

Up to you...

Just go. The UK doesn't enforce this rule nor most of the other virus control measures, except issuing fines (that aren't going to paid) to people who organize parties to make it seem like they are serious.
Michael *********
WTF is going on in the UK? You talk about tyranny
Lynnette *******
@Michael ********
they just want to discourage unnecessary frivolous travel. A year late though.
Michael *********
@Lynnette ******
no travel is frivolous. If You deem it necessary it's essential. Who is govt to tell you what is or isn't. Oh well
Lynnette *******
@Michael ********
necessary isn't frivolous. Thats the point. . The govt are the ones making these strange rules. Not me.

if our pinstriped parasite politicians followed Thailand’s way forward from the outset it would never have come to this. We let boat fills of illegal immigrants land on out beaches in rubber boats , let protesters run riot during the first out break declaring BLM , to an incident which happened 1000s of mikes away , now genuine people are made to suffer !!!
Lynnette *******
@Kevin ******
mores to the point, we let thousands of people fly in and disperse throughout UK with no checks at all.

Legal declaration of reason to travel probably 9 March. Not sure how they are checking but if they look in your passport and see tourist visa or STV or no visa at all you could be in the shit.
Mat ************
Apparently after 8th March we will have to fill out a declaration form proving an essential reason and it will be checked by the airline but there’s no more info on it at the moment. I’m due to go myself in 3 weeks time

he's going to his house in thailand. It's a legitimate reason.

Government cant stop you travelling abroad, many are doing it including to Thailand
Christopher *******
LMFAO the government has enslaved it's citizens through debts to banks that create those debts from nothing.

We are all living on the Jones plantation.
Sammy *******
@Christopher ******
helpful, and definitely a demonstration of your enslavement!

putting aside that Australia already prohibits Australians traveling abroad without a valid reason, one that requires approval and has done so since about April last year, U.K. is implementing something similar.

Quote from the article below "Lockdown rules mean people must only travel abroad for essential reasons" for traveling outside the U.K.

Gov website
Lynnette *******
The only restriction the govt has mentioned is holidays, which I would guess means those short stay jaunts for a couple of weeks break.
Lynnette *******
You can leave uk for any legitimate reason. Its "holidays" they are discouraging. I'm sure no ones being stopped from returning to Thailand.
Steve *******
@Lynnette ******
The reasons are listed on UK Gov website. There arent many of them. Work, family and medical are the only 3.
Lynnette *******
@Steve ******
are these listed as reasons to leave the country? Work? Could be anything. Family? Could be unlimited. People are flying out for many reasons that are relevant to them. I cant find anything that specifies exactly what a legitimate reason is. The govt only say 'not for a holiday'.
Steve *******
Lynnette *******
@Steve ******
people travelling are not necessarily "on holiday". The rules are about legitimate reasons. . And that's what they call legal reasons. But legitimate reasons don't always have documents to support them. If it was logical and enforceable then the planes would be empty. They arent.
Steve *******
@Lynn****
Legitimate reasons DO have documents to support them.
Lynnette *******
@Steve ******
you'll be able to show me samples of "travelling to see family etc" so I can share. I can find no info on documents required to cover this.
Steve *******
@Lynnette ******
Go to the Gov website. If you need to travel abroad you must have a 'legally permitted' reason to do so and provide proof of the reason. Work, ie for your job. Family, ie visiting a family member or medical, ie you need medical treatment.
Lynnette *******
@Steve ******
we already know this. My youngest son is flying in next week. And flying out again 3 weeks larer. His reason is legal. . As many peoples travel reasons are. The govt need to say what is illegal. Lol.
Mike ********
Just go... People are going & not repeat not being questioned at the airport
Steve *******
@Mike *******
People HAVE been stopped. I know someone who yesterday was refused boarding to Spain because they didnt have a legitimate reason to travel
