ORIGINAL POSTER
If I book a flight to Thailand from the UK for the middle of February with no more a reason than to feel the sun on my back and escape this hideousness on a visa exemption, is somebody at the airport going to stop me from leaving....?

Qatar airways would likely be the weapon of choice ....

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the possibility of traveling from the UK to Thailand for tourism in February without a visa. Most commenters express concern about travel restrictions due to COVID-19, indicating that tourism travel is not currently permitted and that certificates of entry (CoE) are not being issued for tourists. Various opinions suggest checking with UK authorities, emphasizing the need for compelling reasons to travel (like medical emergencies) and cautioning about potential consequences at the airport if documentation is not in order. Some encouraging comments underscore the importance of emotional health, encouraging the chosen traveler to still consider going if they can meet requirements.

No one asks, I flew Qatar 21st Jan, almost finished quarantine, the weather is beautiful, and things starting to re open. Don’t listen to the salty people who try talk you out of coming, no one will stop you flying, get all relevant documents, pass the covid test, back then bags and get yourself out here. Like Beverly said, life is short, Live it as you wish 🍻 ☀️

I flew Qatar and no one asked reason for travel. But best to have a reason just in case. Dentist or medical appointment. Family member gravely ill...

Life is short. Live it as you wish. If you want sunshine, get some sunshine. Yeah, you have to relax in a hotel for two weeks. Big deal. Do it. Use the moment to catch up on reading, keep a journal, study something you enjoy. And emotional health is essential to life!

I have a ticket for march 18 but looks unlikely to go ahead so I booked a back up date 3rd nov start of the high seaaon

Yes you have to have a compelling reason for travel holiday is not a reason having family overseas in Thailand is not a reason it would have to be on humanitarian grounds to visit someone who for example is having a major operation or end of life pathway, you are being turned away at the airport

I’d give it a go

Providing you have all required docs in order then you should be ok?

However call Qatar air and ask what docs /if any they request to see, and be mindful that things everywhere can change at short notice.

I flew out of UK on 28th Jan with visa exemption (UK passport). No one asked me a single question
Adnan *******
Jeremy corbyn will trace you at the airport and deny you your rights to board the aircraft.

Even before you think about Thailand. Think of the additional cost. Insurance and if British company, forget it as UK government give them a get out to not pay. ASQ cost. It all adds up just to get the sun. Wait until everything eases off. Thailand are only bedwetting for 10% of usual number of tourists

I’m from the UK but currently living in Spain, I plan to come in March, is Thailand not currently allowing the 45 visa exemption to enter?
Tony **********
@Chris ******
i have a ticket from UK on 18th March but I dont think it will go ahead. I've booked a second flight out on the 3rd nov at the start of the high season

Theres a lot of hoops to go through and expense to get turned away at the check in desk

Australia is letting people out but it needs to be over 3 months

The only reason they'll stop you at the airport and tell you that you are under arrest or cannot leave is if, you haven't paid the tax man 😂🤣 it's about the only thing they care about is squeezing you dry.

So do the paperwork, apply for the visa, get your COE and get the hell out.. And if you are stopped, just say you are going home to the wife, if you don't have one, that's just a minor oversight that can be rectified later 😎
Bobby ********
Picanin Igundwane. He's travelling with no visa. The wife thing won't hold up with the British fuzz. They'll arrest someone for being in a park 5km from their home!

So UK is following the footsteps of Australia .

Country shutdown

As I understand it, for people in the UK, you are unable to travel due to tourism, and Thailand is not issuing the CoE for this reason. This is because of UK's domestic policies.
Kev **********
No coe are been issued based on tourism at this time
Kev **********
Phil Jones that's wher I got the information mate
Steve *******
Kev El Chino Isaac The CoE is only for entering Thailand. As it stands you can only leave the UK for essential reasons. Tourism is NOT considered an essential reason.
Kev **********
Steve Greir yes so therefore without a valid visa you wont get a coe . If you try to check in without one you wont be allowed to board
Bobby ********
Kev El Chino Isaac. I think the OP question related to whether he'll be stopped by the British authorities. The COE for Thailand allows him entry to Thailand, does not allow moving through and departure from the UK
Kev **********
No coe no boarding in uk mate simple as

Thai embassy London
Kev **********
Phil Jones yes it stated jan 17 . I believe. I have a mate who flew 28th as his coe issued before they stopped issuing the visas
Kev **********
Thai embassy website .

I think you're asking in the wrong place. Perhaps the authorities in the UK who administer the airports would be a better source. They will be the people who will either stop you from leaving or allow you to go. I understand at this point "tourism" is not considered "essential" so you need to get a firm answer before you apply for entry into Thailand
