What are the current restrictions for Thai citizens traveling to the UK and returning to Thailand during the pandemic?

Hi everyone. Looking for some information. As I cannot go to Thailand, my girlfriend would like to come to the Uk for a month. I am aware of the current requirement to self isolate here but that is changing weekly. Does anyone know if there is any restrictions from the Thai government on citizens leaving the country for vacations ? Of course this would all depend on her obtaining a visa.

Thanks for your advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the challenges faced by a user whose Thai girlfriend wants to visit the UK for a month amidst the ongoing pandemic. Key points include the necessity of obtaining a visa for UK entry, potential quarantine on return to Thailand, and the complications associated with travel restrictions and visa application processes during the COVID-19 situation. Respondents note that while Thai citizens can leave Thailand, the return may involve expensive quarantine costs, and the situation regarding UK visas is complicated by travel limitations.

She is not forced to get flight back in after the month she stays in UK then she will have to quarantine. I feel for you I'm in same boat

the isolation requirement in the uk has changed several times over the last few weeks. For example there is no requirement to self isolate if travelling to the uk from Vietnam now.

It's probably gonna be a visa problem, well it depends on your girlfriend's situation

unlikely she will get a visa as there is no easy way for her to go home so length of stay will be the big issue. Also she would have to Quarantine at both ends of the journey and in Thailand that is expensive no less than 35k Bt

too true. Thanks for the input

I think she will find getting a UK visa very difficult. I am in the UK and my wife can not get back to Thailand. She has her name down for repatriation flight. I dont believe the UK gov will let people fly in with no way out. UK visa are not the easiest in normal times !

@Andrew *******
quarantine for Thai nationals in Thailand is free.

Yes all travel is Visa dependent. Thus far the UK government has only lifted the 14 day self isolation requirement with countries that offer a reciprocal arrangement. With Thailand extending it visa amnesty again, I think that indicates there is no plan to open the borders so no reciprocal arrangements will be coming with Thailand soon. Thai citizens can leave but as has been said by others, your girlfriend will need to go through the quarantine on her return to Thailand.

For them prices going back I would keep her in U.K. until they stop charging stupid prices but of course someone is making money out of it some where

She should be fine leaving. Quarantine when she gets back will be the pain buddy
Michael ********
None its just getting back into Thailand she would have to apply and possibly as she left the country willingly she would have pay for quarantine which can cost between
*****
and
*****
0 baht

@Michael *******
not for Thai nationals.

@Dave **********
Its the duty of a country to return its citizens in times of crisis calamity etc etc. If she chooses to leave during this time it is her responsibilty to get back.
Dave ***********
@Michael *******
yep not disputing that. Just saying my niece recently went to Norway on holiday and returned to Thailand and had no issue using the free state quarantine.
Michael ********
@Dave **********
Thats correct for repatriation but not for someone going on a holiday.
Dave ***********
@Michael *******
ah ok. I hadn’t heard anything about the authorities checking particular circumstances. For example my Thai niece went to Norway recently and has since returned and went straight to the free state quarantine in Sattahip.

She was lucky then my Friend just enquired about leaving and coming back and was told she has to pay (Thai)
Dave ***********
@Michael *******
yes could well just have been lucky.

maybe my friend shouldnt have asked. But then if Singapore embassy is anything to go on they are overwhelmed and would be easy to overlook.
