ORIGINAL POSTER
I just went to Immiaration at Nonthabur

Immigration Office they refused to give me a

certificate of residency even thought I had all

the required documents. I was told I need to be

in Thailand for year. The person doesn't know

the law. It was suggested in my previous post on the Bank not wanting to allow me to open a Bank account even though I was on a type O visa had my lease agreement and everything.

I'm vary frustrated at this point.

I used a company to get me a bank account and extension of my non o visa, no waiting in queues, well worth it for not having the hassle of misunderstanding.

for all those that say using an agency is a waste of money, that it is easy to do yourself, the many posts of frustrated farang encountering problems say otherwise. When the time is there to make the move i will also be using a third party because i do not need problems

Actually you may get problems, these agents get you over the line then and there it’s when you come to renew it and it’s DIY then you can strike a problem like happened to me. Luckily for a nominal fee immigration took care of the issue, but the point is an extra 12,000 on top of the of the original fee.

still good to use a company, I arrived 14th November on non o visa , lady helped me open a bank account, put my money in, and already stamped in extension until Feb 2027, easy peasy, saves the stress.

I’m beginning to believe that Thailand doesn’t want anybody here longer than 30 days. I’d love to spend my money here but they make it so darn difficult. There are other places to go visit that don’t require such stupidity.

they aren't deterring tourist visitors or limiting them to 30 days. It's 60 days entry without a visa for most countries. Not difficult at all to come on holiday.

Basically if you want to prop up our banking and financial sector with ridiculous requirement amounts they yeah ... you can stay... but have 1m baht before we will consider you.. now it should be clean money not laundered as was quite acceptable

you obviously are confused. You get the visa before you arrive in thailand. Open a bank account. Deposit the required funds, then you can do the 12 month extension of stay. That's the procedure.

yes, and in Thailand there is no “standard” protocol for things like this and if so, half the people don’t understand it because it changes constantly. Endless “initiatives” to solve problems caused by past initiatives. They chase away tourism and investment, and the signs show.

If you have a long term lease why not go to the government office and ask for a yellow book and pink ID card your landlord might have to go with you !

depending on the office they may want a resident certificate too. My Amphur was ridiculous on all the things they wanted for a yellow book so I did not apply for one.

getting a yellow book and a pink ID card can be VERY difficult depending on your local amphur - I had to abandon that idea. At other amphur's it's very easy I hear.

Nonthaburi is a known place where it's difficult to get a certificate of residence. They have requirements like you must already be on a long-term visa and possibly that you must have already done a 90-day report. It'll be pretty much impossible to get a residence certificate from there.

Also, there is no "law" for them to know. Residence certificates are not something created by a law. They're created at the discretion of the immigration office who can set whatever policies they want regarding it.
