Hi All-I recently went to the Ubon Ratchathani immigration to complete a certificate of residence so I can get a Thai drivers license. I had downloaded the form form the thai immigration website and secured all the required documents. However, when I went to the immigration office they told me they do not issue certificate of residence and that I had to go to the transport office(note there was only one person working and I was the only one in the office). So I went to the transport office and after talking to 4 different departments I was told that they don't issue certificate of residence and that I need to go to the tourist police office to get one. Did not manage to get to the tourist police today, but will try on Monday. However, the websites I have seen clearly seem to indicate that immigration issues these certificates, but with Ubon immigration saying they don't issue them, looking for some advice on what my next steps seem to be before going to the Thai tourist police on Monday.

Tourist police have very little to do in Ubon while immigration is extremely busy, maybe that's why ๐Ÿ˜

agree I use work permit but doesn't the guy have a wp??

to get a thai drivers license you have to show proof of residence, that is done one of four ways

letter from the immigration office

letter from your consulate

valid work permit

yellow house book.

The DLT at Chatuchak definitely needed to see one of those things to process your application for a thai driver's license.

or if you have yellow tabien ban will be enough too

Ubon Immigration don't issue residence certificates. I know people that live there. As has been said, you need to use the Tourist police

Most places immigration issues the residence certificate but in Ubon it's the tourist police over in Warin for some reason

And they are very helpful will outline everything you need to do for the licence

I dont know what coumtry your from so this might be different. When i did my thai license i had to go to my embassy which is british get a letter from them saying that the addreas i lived was.correct then get a medical letter from doctor say you need it for the license. Once you.have both go.to the nearest license office to you do the simplr tests they put you through and if you pass all get the license. Cant remember pricies as this was about two years ago. The first license you get is one year then you get 5 years after that. Hope this helps
