Part 2 of the marriage visa nightmare.

So. Drove back down to Korat immigration for another shot at the marriage visa. Had all the same paperwork from last time still stamped and everything. Fixed the ONE misplaced signature from last time. And BAM

NOW for some reason there's a signature that is wrong on our house contract. THE SAME HOUSE CONTRACT FROM LAST VISIT. THAT STILL HAS THE LAST IOs STAMP AND SIGNATURE ON IT.

Our landlord happens to be out of town and cannot expedite her information signature and ID card. So yay.

Have to come back FOR THE THIRD TIME. I am beyond angry at this point. The amount of time and money I have wasted on this is absolutely insane.

I am at a loss for words at this point. How is it paperwork last time that was correct signed and stamped now incorrect.

Sorry end of rant.

We also assist with marriage visas 🙏
Kim *******
Perfectly normal for Thailand, unfortunately.

These people hold way too much power over us. And it's not only TIT, where i am from it's also a lottery. I could write a book about it but nobody would want to read it 😅
Tobben ********
Roland *******
So sorry for your confusion 🙏 we hired agent and showed up got approved and wedding photos

Wishing y'all happiness together 😻

I feel your pain and have faced similar situations not at immigration, but at various Amphur. Silly question but are you over 50 and have you considered applying for the non-O based on retirement instead, as it's very simple. I have chosen to not go down the marriage visa route because of the challenges you are encountering!
Michael ********
Did you have a Rant at the immigration office, if you upset them they will always find something to fxxk you about.
Andrew *******
It’s all a lottery. One day it could sail through, the next could drag for three years. So far you’ve hit two “three year days”
Michael *******
The hell with getting married there . Much simpler here in the US . We just need the FI visa
Cris ******

@Michael ******
well. Sort of agree. The US visa is a huge headache. But only once.

@Cris *****
probably I haven't tried it yet . I need to get my taxes in order . But I did buy a house over in Thailand in my girlfriends name .
Jacob *******
Easier to get a DTV and call it good if you dont need to work.

ya. Im at that point now. It just sucks because im already out like 15k or something on expenses. A lot of the agents here won't touch marriage visas.

im from the US haha and im a lot younger. I've lived here almost 5 years now. Haha I do see your point. But I do like Thailand. Just has some uh issues to fix.
David *******
This is why the DTV is so popular! Five years and no need to visit an immigration office!
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@David ******
eh I dunno. I've heard some massive headaches recently about it. I am definitely considering it though. I dont know a lot about it though.
David *******
@Cris *****
You've probably heard a few whining stories, but consider all those who are in and out continually. There's been no reports of anyone denied entry.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@David ******
that is true... im just not sure what I would qualify for with it. Or however it works. I should look into it... because I already have all the stuff people struggle with, mainly bank account.
Jordi ********
Totally get it, also happened to me. If its of any relief, it will get better after the first time. They actually smile now, gave me a cooky and some instant coffee😅. Hang in there!
Paul ********
@Jordi *******
me too after have million baht in bank for a year. 55
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jordi *******
haha. Well. Technically this is our 5th visit for this one visa. I had a marriage visa prior but I had to let it lapse because I had to leave the kingdom for an emergency back in the US. So had to do the tourist, to Non O family, now to marriage system. I will keep and frame that instant coffee when this is all done with.
Jordi ********
@Cris *****
I had the same problem. Didnt renew the first time, let it lapse. They were not too happy about that either;). But must have done around 5 trips as well. At least now there is an immigration on Koh Chang and I dont have to go to the mainland. Wasted a lot of time (and that of our witness).
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Jordi *******
God I could not imagine having to do a koh chang trip for immigration. Ya sadly we have like 4 IO offices all about 2 hours away. But because its marriage visa. Can only go to korat one.
Lally ********
IYKYK.

Life is a revolving door of disappointments. We must all try to be as positive as we can with whatever comes our way. Whether we are angry or not, we still have to deal with the issue at hand. Good luck.

@Nathan **********
ya. Once I chilled out just gotta remember work the problem. Thank you
Paul *********
Do they have a guide to complete the marriage visa at the Korat office?

I’ve done mine in Phuket and followed their guide and only had minor problems each time I’ve renewed.

I’m moving to Ubon soon so I’m hoping that office has a similar guide I can get.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Paul ********
they do. Sort of. The problem is all the fine print in said guide. I have heard ubons office is pretty smooth though.
Stéfan ********
Was it a different shade of color of the ink?
Cris ******

@Stéfan *******
baha nah they are saving that for me next visit. "Not correct hue of blue ka come back later"
Stéfan ********
@Cris *****
maybe they will want to know the brand of the pen used and see photos of it
Cris ******

@Stéfan *******
oh true ill bring that. With the receipts, me holding the receipt with a picture of the sales person and sign of store in clear view. With directions to said store. Haha
Gerg **********
The copy of my rental agreement I had with me at immigration for my extension wasn’t signed, so my wife called our landlord and she was able to send a file with the LINE app that had the signed copy, and it worked in my situation. We even had it printed out right there at immigration. This was in Bangkok.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Gerg *********
ya. The problem is my landlord is out of town and doesn't have access to their stuff. Plus they want an extra witness added on now too.
Gerg **********
@Cris *****
Ahh bummer.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Gerg *********
ya. And again. If we were informed of this prior. I wouldn't mind. But the fact just the week prior they signed off on it saying it was fine. But now magically its not. Is what frustrates me.
Gerg **********
@Cris *****
Getting used to the “Thai” chaotic way of doing things isn’t easy, I know. Hope you have better luck.
Steve **********
I was renewing my marriage extension in BKK. I was seated next to a guy and we started to chat a little.

He said he was on his 20+ consecutive years of renewing the same marriage extension, at the same office, with the same lady and if one I isn’t dotted or one T is not properly crossed she sends him home.

It’s idiotic.
Gerry ******
@Steve *********
that's because they hate you getting it for 400k... much better to change to the 800k.but they are still jealous of you.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
I tried that. They said they can't 😞. I offered to rent a new house for a month even haha. Said no cannot.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *********
yep. Its absolutely insane. Especially considering the "we want farangs to bring money into Thailand" but I would bet married farangs and retirees bring in more than tourists. But are treated like gar age
Max *************
@Cris *****
Do you know if extensions based on retirement are tough as well?
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Max ************
it doesn't appear they are. My only massively huge recommendation is book an online appointment. I do have to give them props. That system works really well. But make sure you show up an hour prior.
Nongnuch ********
@Cris *****
I assume it is the signature on the rental contract that you are referring to? Well the best solution is, check into a hotel near the Immigration, ask the hotel to print the TM30, go back to Immigration and report yourself under a new adress - the hotel. By this your rental contract has lost its relevancy
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Nongnuch *******
well 2 things. No they want another witness added on the rental contract along with the landlords wife signature was in the wrong place. And I can't do the hotel hop. Because its for a marriage visa. They do a home visit etc. Etc
Nongnuch ********
@Cris *****
I must admit it must be absolutely annoying. Myself I have a very short fuse, I would have already exploded
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Nongnuch *******
oh ya. Then have to drive 2 hours home in the misery. Haha oh well stopped at our favourite noodle shop on the way back. It helped.
Nongnuch ********
@Cris *****
yes, they will do a home visit. But you can get the extension issued under consideration, leave the hotel and then the landlord can register you anew in the TM30 system online (I hope he has already registered the house in the TM30 system to be able to do so) You go back to Immigration with the new TM30 and tell them you are back in the house and they can come for a visit anytime during the under consideration period
Steve *******
Welcome to Thailand 🤦‍♂️

Don't mean to sound sarcastic, I just really feel your pain. It's ridiculous.
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve ******
man i know. And I put up with ALOT of the TiT stuff but this is absurd.
Max *************
The question is, was the signature last year correct?
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Max ************
who knows! Haha. I asked them. "So your saying the signature from last week was wrong and last year's was wrong?!" And just got more. "Uhhh no solly this wrong signature"
Max *************
@Cris *****
Don't they have a supervisor in that immigration office,one notch above your officer?
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Max ************
ya. That was my mistake though. My wife was sort of talking to the IO and seemed hopeless. I was so heated I needed to leave. But thats on deck for next visit. Im actually going to scan all my documents, convert to pdfs and bring a full size printer with me. And ya haha
Steve ****
Change of officers

TIT, this is Thailand
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Andy ******
man i agree. But this is going a bit to far. I mean we are 2 hours one way to immigration, then bank, then wait etc etc. This time we booked a hotel close, got the bank done as soon as they opened. Had an online booking and everything.
Andy *******
@Cris *****
frustrating, that's why I'm the lazy guy who pays an Agent
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Andy ******
im at that point now. But a lot of agents won't touch marriage visas. And im already like 16k baht in the hole from all these trips. But in the future. Ya. But honestly. If they told me that from the start. Id have no problem with it. Especially to save my sanity
Andy *******
@Cris *****
married or not if you're over 50 the retirement Visa is less paperwork the marriage visa is more paperwork so they charge more money but they will do it
Cris ******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Andy ******
sadly. Im not even close. Almost 15 years away from the marriage visa. Haha.
