Why is the Under Consideration Period for My Dependant Visa Extension Until December?

Just been to immigration today for my extension of stay on dependant visa.

I arrived on a single non - o in august 24th after doing quarantine in bkk.

Anyway went for my extension of stay and instead of getting the normal under consideration for 14 days I was told my under consideration is 21st December so go back then for my dependant visa.

Is this normal or what?

Why so long if any one has any ideas?

I might get called back to work before then so it’s may be pointless doing what I did today with all the paperwork etc etc.

Can any one shed any light on this?

Thx

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the unusually long 'under consideration' period for their dependant visa extension application, which is set for December 21st instead of the typical duration. Other comments suggest that extensions based on family situations can vary, with some users sharing their own experiences of delays in immigration processing across different provinces in Thailand.

I was supposed to come today to immigration in Buengkan to get my remaining 11 months stamped in on a yearly extension based on marriage. My wife was in contact with them the last few days do to other things. The regional headquarters in Khon Kaen suddenly wanted an updated copy of my bankbook, again, even though I applied in September and haven't heard from them since. Buengkan office told her everything okay again, but they will call on a later date when I can come and get my stamp. They couldn't specify when exactly. Guess immigration all over the country is running busy these days due to obvious reasons.

I agree with you immigration offices must be very busy at the moment.

I am from the UK and I am definitely being treated better in Thailand than a foreigner would be in the UK.

So you were applying for a year extension of stay based on raising a half thai child here correct?

Strange they'd give you an under consideration stamp dated until the 21st of Dec (that's a good ways out :O 53 days to be exact).

Year extensions based on marriage to a thai, raising half thai children typically get a 30 day under consideration period (not 14 days) but I got no reason why yours was so much longer..

I have full custody of my half Thai son this is the reason I was applying. I wasn’t actually paying attention in immigration as it was long day only noticed while stopped for a drink.

I have the immigration officers line ID so I did call and he said if I do get called to work come in snd he will get the extension of stay before I go to work, I asked even if it’s in 2 weeks he said no problem!!

Just seems a bit weird no??

@Scott **********
good they said that.. Nope, not weird at all. remember there's a clause in the rules for extensions says "OR at the discretion of the issuing officer", which means they can "bend" the under consideration period if they want to.

Good on you for asking and getting a good answer to your question.

thx for the info and let’s hope he keeps to his word and sorts it quicker if needed.

Did you ask them while you were there about it and did you mention to them you might get called back out of the country to see if you could get a shorter under consideration period?

I suppose I will have to wait and see when my work calls me to go offshore and it will definitely be before 21st dec and see what happens!!

@T**
knows much more about this than I do but it appears that all is good.

Your experience with immigration is a positive one. If you add in the Thai belief that everything will work out in the end you are in a good position.

To be honest all my interactions with Immigration have been positive apart from one time when I was 100% to blame.
