I recently visited the my immigration office for a 1 year extension (married to Thai wife). I got the usual "under consideration" stamp. I take this to mean that the extension is a pretty sure thing because if there was any problem the IO would have refused to send the paperwork on. In the collective knowledge of this group, is anyone aware of an extension being refused at this stage (i.e. while "under consideration)? Or is it just a rubber stamp exercise to allow time for the paperwork to go to the appropriate office and be scanned/entered onto the computer?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The term 'under consideration' typically means that the immigration office is in the process of reviewing your application for a one-year extension based on marriage to a Thai citizen. During this period, while it is generally expected that the application will be approved, there are instances where extensions can be denied if certain conditions are not met. Common reasons for denial include not being present for scheduled interviews or home visits. The 30 days under consideration may also involve background checks and verifying the legitimacy of the marriage. Switching to a retirement visa might be recommended if eligible, as it often requires less paperwork.
