Hi everyone, my 30 days visa extension is expiring on Jan 19th, so need to leave the country this time. I need to find an easy Thai embassy that would allow me to get a 60 days singe entry visa. Would also like to get the opportunity to sightsee a bit. Can anyone suggest an easy Thai embassy, which is possibly close to a nice and cheap place of interest? I was looking into Cambodia but flights are not cheap from BKK, especially if i want to do BKK - Siem Reap (visit there) Siem Reap - Phnom Penh (visa application). Any other option?

Thanks so much :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on obtaining a 60-day single entry Thai visa after their current 30-day visa expires. They are looking for recommendations on easy Thai embassies or consulates, preferably in locations that also offer sightseeing opportunities. Suggestions include Kuala Lumpur, Vientiane, Penang, and Ho Chi Minh City, noting varying processes and potential challenges at each location.

Kuala Lumpur is best all round, travel plus they move people through the process. Go early drop paperwork in the AM, next day pick up visa in the PM

Hi Ilenia, depending on nationality, you can normally extend you Visa an extra 30 days at an Immigration Office. Then you have to leave the country, Penang Malesia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ the Thai ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ Embassy does a 60 day Visa. Regards Pino

You don't need any visa to go in to Malaysia. Have you already extended your 30 day visa exempt stamp?

I'm seriously wondering just how long it will be before Thai immigration clamps down on having the so called "Soft Touch" embassy in Vientiane so publicly advertised?

I think you should concentrate on going to a consulate that's easy to deal with for your single entry tourist visa and then after that plan a vacation to go somewhere ;)

The easiest thai consulate to deal with is the one in Vientiane Lao. They are the "softest touch" consulate nearby.

in Phnom Penh you're gonna spend 3 days waiting to get your visa back from them, and if you use an agent in Siem Reap they have to take your passport to Phnom Penh because that is the only thai consulate in Cambodia

my only problem with Savannakhet was that I was the only falang crossing the border, it was evening and the VOA window appeared to be closed. By the time I got it sorted, the local bus I had gotten in Mukdahan decided to leave without me. The immigration officers were incredibly helpful, though. First they tried to get me a ride from random strangers, and finally, one immigration officer took me in her car, and even drove me to a few guesthouses! Very sweet, and typical Lao hospitality. Later I went to get something to eat, and a local woman who I was chatting to in the restaurant paid for my meal.

You fly to ubon or khon khaen, i didnt find it so difficult and there aren't tourist so everything was faster, less noise, less chaos. Savannaketh very good, i also rent a motorbike.

Marco **********
Savannaketh is not harder, i have been there. You just need passport and bank statememt and that is all.

@Jordan *******

it's been a couple of years since i've been there, but i found Savannakhet to be easier than Vientiane. Much more chill and less busy.

I second Vientiane. I'm flying back from there tonight (I flew into Udon Thani and took a van across the bridge) and it was super easy. I believe Monday is when the groups go, so go on a Tuesday. It took under an hour and picking it up the next day took like a minute, it was so fast. They didn't ask for proof of anything -- just need copies of your passport/departure card as well as two photos.

I just got my 60 day SETV in Vientiane before the new year, 1000 baht . I did it through an agent. I arrived at Thai Embassy in the morning around 10 am, applied for visa and got my visa and passport the following day at 4pm so a night required. I believe you cannot get your visa back same day of application so 1 night required wherever you go

@Ile***
, you could get your tourist visa from a thai consulate in another country and then travel around it if you wanted to.

The tourist visa is good for 90 days <- meaning you have that long to enter thailand and get stamped in for 60 days
Tod *********
@Ile***
, I believe that Penang requires a hotel booking and proof of 20K baht in funds.

thanks, thatโ€™s why I wanted to travel for a week before getting my 60 days visa. Is Penang the same hassle do you know?
Tod *********
@Ilenia *******
, oh sorry, no, that is a single entry visa only so it means you come in one time and get stamped in for 60 days

IF you needed to exit the country and come back during those 60 days you would need to buy a re-entry permit at the immigration office for 1000baht to keep the 60 day stamp 'alive', otherwise it would cancel when you stamped out of the country

sorry itโ€™s not really clear.. after I get my single entry 69 days visa will I be able to exit and enter back in Thailand?
Tod *********
as long as you get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate before you come back you'll get stamped in for 60 days when you enter thailand
