Gotta go get a Thailand tourist visa. Which nearby embassies are sympathetic/ troublesome? I could go to Vietianne but I'd probably rather go to Vietnam or Phnom Penh. Recent experiences?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses personal experiences with obtaining a Thailand tourist visa from nearby embassies in Vietnam and Cambodia. Users mention that the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) can be friendly if all requirements are met, while one user had a negative experience due to a past overstay. In Phnom Penh, a longer turnaround time of 3 days is noted, while having all necessary documents simplifies the process. Vietianne is implied to still be accommodating, although specific recent experiences there are less detailed.

Vietianne? Still the soft touch it has always been?

I've found they're all "sympathetic" if you meet the requirements.
The two thai consulates in Vietnam used to want to see 20K baht in a bank account and proof of onward travel.
Phnom Penh has a 3 day turn around so plan on being there 4 days or so AND meeting the requirements on their website

HCMC is very nice, stay in the District One around Bui Vien area...the embassy is very friendly to use....you might have to buy a visa online for Vietnam but its only like $25 for 30 days....

I know all about HCMC and the teaching game there. I had two spells there
if you're looking for teaching jobs look in HCMC they pay extremely well to be an English teacher...there are people making $4,000 a month teaching there....
