TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the challenges of obtaining a Thai tourist visa from various locations post-COVID. Users share experiences and suggestions regarding visa applications from cities like Kuala Lumpur (KL), Bali, Penang, and others. Important points include the need for appointments, financial requirements like bank statements and confirmed accommodations, and the heightened scrutiny faced by applicants with COVID-related extensions in their passports. Some recommended practical locations for easier processing include Savannakhet, Laos, and Penang, Malaysia, while users also advise thorough preparation to meet the specific requirements of each consulate.

After much research and gratitude for THIS page, I'm going the Suvannakhet way. Didnt see that coming until an hour ago....thanks guys. We should be chipping in for drinks for you. If there is a hassle I will respect the post and get back to it with any issues that I have so others might know. I do wonder what they mean by showing this: """""Evidence of travel from Thailand (confirmed air ticket paid in full) and evidence of flight itinerary to and from Thailand""""" I am flying to Khon Kaen from CNX, taking a bus to Mukdahan and whatever means across the river. Did they want to see my air ticket from Canada back on July 1 and my onward ticket out of Thailand that doesnt exist (but I suppose had better start existing soon)\?

well if they see my bank balance they will suspect i am going for a retirement visa....lol....thats for sure. thanks again for all your help. I will book a flight out that I can cancel to someplace close just to make it seamless.
they won't ask for proof of travel to thailand, they know you're gonna cross the bridge to get back in, they might ask for proof you're leaving thailand in 60-90 days <- the length of time you can stay on a tourist visa.

To further expand on what James recommended.
The thai consulate in Savannakhet is walk up service, they require a bank statement showing you have 20K baht in the bank on the date you apply ONLY, you turn in your passport one morning and pick it up the next business day after 2.
There is NO issue getting across the bridge at Savannakhet Mukdahan AT ALL (no matter what your passport looks like).
interesting. Savanaket Seems like the best bet if that is the only thing they require. I will try to find their list of requirements online tonight. Anyone know a link to that.?

This is where the consulate is in Savannakhet 😛
It's the province in Lao across the River from Mukdahan Thailand.

I went to the consulate in Saigon (HCMC) in April this year with about 10 pages in my passport that contained also Covid related stamps (not only). They have a long list of requirements (ie. bank statements for several month, booking/housing confirmation, flights, etc.) and want you to book an appointement in advance online, which needs to be booked about 10 days in advance to "gurantee" a slot.
As I met all hard requirements, they did issue my visa without anymore hassle than the mentioned. In consequence it is a good optiion in my oppinion if you are well prepared.
Be advised that I got pulled out of line upon returning to Bangkok anyways. With the help of my thai girlfriend they let me in, but made clear it will be the last time on a simple tourist visa (even I went back to Europe for 3-4 months in summer beetween my stays in Thailand.)
thanks a lot. Regarding proof of funds, do they ask to show bank statements for the 6 months prior applying having at least 20k baht in the account? Or the 20k is for the same month you are applying?
they require all bank statements for 6 months, you dont need to maintain that balance all they time though, just make sure statements are complete for 6 months. They do check that throughly.
thanks.i have my $$$ lined up for a retirement Visa but just couldn't get all the ducks in a row in time so ONE more TR is all I need.

Suggest that you consider going North to Laos or East to Cambodia .. much easier to get the Thai tourist visa.
Penang with planning is possible.
Use of a Visa Run service improves your success in getting the Thai Visa sought. They will prescreen your eligibility for a Thai Visa. And only take you if they feel you will get the Thai Visa Issued.
i was planning on Phnom Penh but got spooked for some reason. Do you know any reason of late that it shouldn't be fine? I think in the past it as a tough joint as they were busy enough without farangs using them.

BOOM. DONE. I suggest I do as you suggest. hahahahaha
i have done kl pre covid and have an appointment but not booked the trip yet. Your feeling comes from recent peoples experiences i take it. PP used to considered a no go and KL a good place so things are sounding quite backwards these day. Thank you

Where ever you decide to go to get the tourist visa KNOW that if you got a passport full of covid extensions, you're gonna get grief applying and/or be turned away outright.
KL is not known as a user friendly thai consulate and you make an appointment to apply AND to pick up your passport too.
Singapore you apply online, but they are hard on people with covid extensions
Last report was the thai consulate in Bali was still closed and you apply in Jakarta
Right now Penang Malaysia, HCMC or Hanoi Vietnam, Phnom Penh Cambodia, Vientiane or Savannakhet Lao are all open.
You need to read the requirements very carefully, and meet them or they'll deny you the visa.
The places that require an appointment are; KL Malaysia, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam & Vientiane Lao (and sort of Singapore as you apply online and then they tell you when you can come to turn in the paperwork)
NONE of the consulates are "soft touch" like they were pre-covid 😕
They all have differing financial requirements; Ssome need 3 months of bank statements, some need just the money in the bank on the day you apply. Some need confirmed lodging for your whole stay, some just a few days
READ the requirements carefully on the website of the consulate you're going to..

I have two 60 day tourists visas finished this year. Didnt sit in thailand on covid visas. I rent a place here have a bank account filled with baht
interesting for them to ask for 60 days payment of accoms before you actually can get a visa. Lol. Kinda asking people to gamble with a large chuck of cash.
