Hi I would like to apply for a 60 day tourist visa for Thailand with an option to renew for another 30 days in Kuala Lumpur. From what I have read in online forums this should not be a problem?? Can someone advise?? Should I go directly to the Thai Embassy in KL myself or should I "use an agent" in KL?i am a South African citizen and have been in and out of Thailand quite a few times in the last 3 years on no visa 30 days and have renewed for another 30 days. I have never applied for a 60 day tourist visa before. Many thanks. Can someone shed light on my question???

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about applying for a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand in Kuala Lumpur, seeking advice on whether to do it personally at the Thai Embassy or use an agent. Responses suggest that applying directly at the embassy is straightforward, requiring flight bookings, lodging proof, and a completed checklist. A single-entry visa can be obtained and extended for an additional 30 days at local immigration.

Thanks for your input guys!!

Oh and you should have copies of your flight bookings / lodging to hand over - don't use the originals as they don't return them.

Just letting u know that I have wasted my time and cash (no ones fault) by trying to apply for Thai tourist visa in Kuala Lumpur. Was refused and informed at embassy that as of 2 months ago South Africa is now a "listed country" which means that South Africans can only apply for Thai tourist visa in South Africa. Just letting people know so that others do not make the same mistake. Thanks

Thanks so much! One more thing please. My onward flight out of Thailand is booked for like 87 days after I first arrive (60 days plus 30 day extension) IS THIS OKAY??? or do they want to see an onward flight booked within the 60 day period?? An answer to this question would be much appreciated

Lol if I was coming here for 2 months on holiday and travelling around I'd have no clue where I'd be. Thai bureaucracy at its finest!

Point 6 on the checklist: A Copy of reservation/confirmation of accommodation for the whole stay in Thailand or rental agreement.

I have a lease agreement. Not sure but I think a hotel reservation for the first few nights would be sufficient -

could you confirm?

Adam thank u. One more thing. On the checklist they say they want to see copy of accommodation reservation for the whole duration of the trip in Thailand. This is a bit difficult for a 90 day period, especially if one is traveling and does not have accommodation booked for a whole 3 month period. How should I approach this???

Hi David. I got a 60 day visa in KL in July - it's really straight forward - there's no need to use an agent.

They wanted to see flight bookings into Thailand and onwards, as well as proof of lodging here, and their completed and signed checklist along with the visa application form and cash. No financials required. Arrived 9:30am on the Tuesday and was done in around 30 minutes, picked up at 2:30 the next day - was in and out in 5 minutes.

You can go by yourself, KL is straight forward, you have to fill in a checklist before application. You can get the Single Entry Tourist Visa which gives you 60 days and apply for Extension of Stay at local Immigration for another 30 days. The link for the checklist:
