Hey y'all!

It will soon be my first time applying for a tourist visa. I've always had a non b so I have no clue what I'm doing haha. I was thinking of making it into a nice vacation but not sure where to go/what's easiest.

1. Aside from Laos, what other places are great for a 60 day tourist visa? I'm most concerned about the flight details they ask for. I plan on flying back to Thailand as I have a house here. I keep seeing a requirement for flights to and from Thailand.

2. How long does it take to process?

Also would anyone like to come with? I have to bounce out by the 30th of June. :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry is about applying for a 60-day tourist visa for the first time, with concerns about flight details and processing time. The discussion includes suggestions for destinations like Laos, Penang, Malaysia, and Kathmandu, Nepal, which are considered convenient for obtaining the visa. The processing time is generally one day for applying in-person at most consulates. There's also advice on requirements, such as onward travel proof and visa application tips at various consulates.

And now that we've beaten this topic to death I believe
@Sab****
, knows that it is her responsibility (not the place she works at) to cancel both her work permit and her extension of stay BEFORE she leaves the country

AND

she knows that she's going to have to meet the requirements (if any) at the consulate she applies at. :)

PRO TIP: if you don't want to worry about the 3-proof-ofz (onward travel, proof of funds, hotel booking) you can use the thai consulate in Vientiane Lao.

They are the only thai consulate in S/E Asia that doesn't require any thing other than copies of your passport, the filled out application, two passport sized photos and 1000 baht.

I think we're done ;) Good Luck (y)

Either Penang, Malaysia or Kathmandu, Nepal. We have used both and Nepal is cheap and rely easy. Penang also but you won't get the incredible mountains 👁☀🎬

It's a little pricy to fly all the way to Nepal for a visa to thailand isn't it?

As a side note: Make sure you cancel your WP and if you did 90 days report at Immigration your Extension of Stay before you leave the country.

you don't work around it :/ you meet the requirements. Buy a bus ticket from Chiang Mai to Vientiane or from where every you are to another country. You can't just get a ticket to the border, like chiang mai to nong khai.

You said you go for a tourist visa, this only allows you for 60 days plus an Extension of 30 days than you have to leave again for a new visa.

meet the requirements that the consulate has and you're fine going to either place. Note that they have different requirements as far as what proof you need to have (proof of 20K baht in the bank, proof of a hotel booking, proof of onward travel).

Talk with your school, you can cancel your WP and Extension of Stay in advance, that will give you some time to organize. If you cancel WP and Extension on Stay on last day working, you have to leave on the same day, or you have to apply for a NEW Extension of Stay at 1.900 Thb. If you do not meet any requirements you will get application not approved and 7 days to leave the country.

Also this is a question to both of you, which do you prefer for a 60 day tourist visa? KL or Penang?

@Robert ******
do I leave the same day or can I leave the next day?
Robert *******
@Sab****
, the moment this Extension of Stay is cancelled you have to leave the country. It is your passport and your responsibility, please don't leave it up to the school and double check later.

ahhh yes I understand - think my school is doing this for me. But I’ll double check before I leave ☺️🙏

@Sab****
you don't have a Non-B visa anymore you have an extension of stay :/

and yes, you DID have to do 90 day reporting but maybe your school did it for you, BUT you DO need to go to the immigration office and cancel your current extension of stay BEFORE you leave the country.

Do you have a stamp in your passport that looks like this? If so you don't have a Non-B VISA you have an extension of stay and need to cancel it BEFORE you leave the country

Sabrina, if your school took care, you never went to the border, your school did also your 90 days report for you. I hope you noticed that every 90 days and 1 time a year you had to give your passport to a school staff member and when they returned it to you there was some piece of paper attached to your passport and a new stamp was put in their yearly. Visa rules and regulations apply for every foreigner inside Thailand, Just open your passport look at the stamps and you will find a stamp with the first line the name of the Immigration office and the second line: Extension of Stay is permitted up to. Well this stamp you have to cancel at Immigration office.

I have a non b and and work permit. I never had to bounce out of the country. My school always took care of it. I’m aware I need to make sure the work permit is cancelled first. They never said I have to do a 90 day check in as I don’t think that really applies to me.

@Sabrina ********
, IF you have a yearly extension of stay from the immigration office (as opposed to a Non-B visa where you bounce out and back in every 90 days) you need to CANCEL the extension BEFORE you leave the country to go get another visa

You did 90 days report at Immigration and got an Extension of Stay based on working from Immigration for 1.900 Thb or did you go abroad bought a Visa at a consulate or embassy and made every 90 days a border run?

why 90 days check in if im leaving?

I think Vientianne is the only consulate around here that doesn't require proof of onward travel.

I've seen a few posts that suggests Ho Chi Min might be quite user friendly.

Wherever you go, be sure to make an update here about your experience :)

Most of the consulates and embassy have the same police, apply day nr 1 in the morning and pick up next working day in the afternoon.

I just went through Kuala Lumpur and it was a breeze! I gave them my flight into Thailand and a bus ticket to Siem Reap as my onward travel and it was accepted.

Where did you book the bus ticket and is it refundable? Is there a way to print a confirmation just for the visa? I'm not trying to leave thailand
