My Education extension will be cancelled on the 20th. I want to fly out, get a 60 TR visa and return. I have a new passport with only my old non-b and current ed extension stamp.

What nearby consulate is the most convenient/fastest lately? I heard Penang is good. Any trip reports? TIA

Answer summary

The user is seeking information about the most convenient consulate to obtain a 60-day tourist visa due to the impending cancellation of their education extension. They mention having a new passport and inquire about effective consulate options nearby, specifically mentioning Penang. Comments suggest possible consulates in Vientiane and Savannakhet with next-day services, and Phnom Penh with an agent's assistance. A warning is given regarding the recognition of past immigration records despite the new passport.

Having a new passport does not hide all your past extension stamps. The immigration computers have all your past details, and come up when your fingerprint is scanned, and also on their facial recognition software they use. They don't take your picture for nothing. The Thai Embassy will sell you a tourist visa, but that does not mean immigration will let you enter the country, given your past history.

Depends where you are in Thailand. Vientiane and Savannakhet are next day pick-ups. Vientiane requires an appointment.
