Hello everybody 👋

I fly in and arrive back into Phuket Thailand to start my Non O Marriage visa on Thursday 25th September 2025.

I worked out December 23rd is 90 days after 25/09/25 if you include the arrival day.

My mother has been unwell in Sydney Australia and I want to visit her around late October 2025 getting a re-entry permit to do so.

I just wanted to make sure incase the dates change to visit my mother when do I have to do this visit before to be back in Thailand in time to apply for my Visa Extension in phuket?

Is it 30 days before December 23rd?

Or in some cases I read you can apply 45 days before depending where you are.

Is there anything else I am Missing?

Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is preparing to start a Non-O Marriage visa in Thailand and plans to visit their ailing mother in Australia around late October 2025. They seek clarification on the timeline for applying for a visa extension in Thailand, especially in relation to their 90-day stay period ending on December 23, 2025. They question whether they need to return to Thailand at least 30 or 45 days before this deadline, and ask for additional information regarding the process.

The "90 day visa" is a non-O which IS the retirement visa.

No. Apply for the 90 day Non-O visa before you fly. Get to Thailand, open a bank account and deposit the funds you need to show and in the last 30 days of your Non-O apply for a 12 months extension of stay based on retirement

If your over 50 Peter, apply for a retirement visa, with multiple entries, before I left Australia, I applied for a non-o 90 day single entry visa, when I got here, I applied for my retirement visa through Anna’s visa in Hua Hin, they did everything and took two days.

Boy oh boy. 2nd picture (Not the red stamp) is an extension of stay as you can read in the second line. The first picture is a multiple re-entry permit. This is bought 'on top' of the year extension so when you leave and enter Thailand during the dates from y'r extension, this extension keeps valid (in y'r case till 14 aug. 2026. So the yearextension and the re-entry permit, both are no visas.

I just think your punctuation is wrong. Full stop after “ entries”. Capital “B” ( before/Before)

Hi Graham, in my eyes, if I read between the lines, that’s what I wrote!!!!!

I actually got 16 months with my retirement visa, in my passport, it’s stamped retirement, so my terminology is correct.

Nope. Y'r initial non O visa is "USED" (stamp on visa). Look on the stamp in y'r passport. It 'says' (red stamp 'retirement' indeed) but also 'extension of stay permitted..........'. This is not a visa anymore !

a visa simply is a document stating the reason you are entering, it's good for X days permission to stay in the country, it's used up upon entry (unless it's multiple entry). To stay longer you apply for an EXTENSION of stay. From that time onward you are on an extension of your permission to stay, the reason being whatever the visa was, such as retirement. Terminology is important because different rules apply to being on a visa permission to stay stamp or on an extension permission to stay stamp. Your stamp says PERMISSION TO STAY UNTIL. It doesn't say visa until, or retirement until.

No you got your retirement (over 50) Non-O in Australia and in Thailand you applied for a 12 month Extension of Stay (based on being over 50). Terminology is key.

@Graham *****
Well, you're actually extending your 12 months permission to stay, if the terminology is important, and I do agree, it is. 👍

Terminology is key because the incountry Non-O does not need to be seasoned funds (except for maybe 2 Offices) and usually needs to show as an international transfer. An Extension of Stay will always require the funds to be seasoned and does not require to be from an international transfer. Significant differences.

You CAN apply 30 days before in all offices and 45 days in some. But that doesn't mean you have to. You can apply up until the last day of your permission to stay.
