Hello . My mother who is French is flying to Thailand November 1st from Paris . She already bought ger ticket for à return 90 days later . I understand she can only get à visa for 60 days then an extension for another 30 when she is there. My question is will it be à problem having her return scheduled 90 days later when she is only given 60 to begin with. Also can she do the extension in Chiang Mai ? And my last question how long in avance can I apply for her visa for z departure November 1st ? Many many thanks for all your help ..

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about their French mother's travel to Thailand, specifically regarding her visa situation. She will be granted a 60-day tourist visa upon arrival but can extend it for an additional 30 days. Concerns were raised about having a return ticket scheduled for 90 days later and whether this would pose a problem. It was confirmed that the Thai embassy accepts tickets for less than 90 days when applying for a single-entry tourist visa. Additionally, extensions can be processed in Chiang Mai, provided she has her TM30 receipt. The best practice is to apply for her visa sufficiently in advance, ideally around early September, as it might take up to a month for approval.

Now seems getting off the rails. You need to focus on getting SETV first, then think about a second entry for her when she actually can travel to Thailand.
Unfortunately, how to get the required air tickets is not really covered in the scope of this group.

I believe the requirement by Thai immigration is for onward travel, not necessarily return ticket. The traveler could purchase a refundable flight to a neighboring country. Also, if anyone asks, it will be the airline.
correct. I have personally been asked by the airline when checking in for an onward ticket if my return was later than my allowable stay in Thailand. I have not ever been asked to show a ticket, onward or return, by Thai immigration.
So at this point guess i best call the airline..and perhaps go directlt to the Thai Embassy with all the info ..airline ticket and hôtel réservation confirmation.
Please check the website of the Royal Thai Embassy in France website for detailed requirements and procedures for tourist visas.
Q1. will it be à problem having her return scheduled 90 days later when she is only given 60 to begin with?
-> The embassy in France accepts air tickets leaving Thailand within "less than 90 days", otherwise Single Entry Tourist Visa application may not be accepted. Remember the arrival date is day 1. 90-day counting is "89 nights", not 90 nights.
Q2. can she do the extension in Chiang Mai?
-> Yes, she can apply for a 30 days tourism extension at the Chiang Mai immigration office only once. Don't forget she get her TM30 receipt when she arrived CM in case.
Q3. how long in avance can I apply for her visa for z departure November 1st ?
-> SETV is valid for 3 months from the issued date to enter Thailand on it. But as the embassy in France states it might take 1 month to be approved once an application is completed. You can apply now and better to submit an application for SETV in early September at the latest.
many thanks .. well so will have to see if i can change her return ticket then by à day or two to avoid any problems when applying for her single entry visa right ???
The air carrier may or may not check if her return ticket(s) is within 60 days upon her check-in to Thailand even if she travels on SETV. Check with the airline about their policy on it.
It MIGHT help If she can show the requirements for SETV (especially the air tickets part) from the Thai embassy in France in case the airline requires her to have return tickets within 60 days.
