My 12 month extension of a Non-O visa expires on 2nd August and I would like to know how soon before it expires can I apply for another year's extension.

I'm keen to fly home to the UK to see my mother for probably the last time sowould like to go sooner rather than later but I am worried I can't renew it too early and if I leave and can't return before it expires etc...

So how long before it expires can I apply for another extention.

Any reccomedations for avoiding pitfalls in the process.

many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about the timeline for applying for an extension on their Non-O visa, which expires on August 2nd, while they are planning to travel to the UK. Community responses suggest that most immigration offices in Thailand permit applications up to 45 days before expiration. Some commenters mention that specific immigration offices may offer leniency if travelers have fixed flight tickets, potentially allowing earlier applications. Concerns about the TM30 form and the extension process's "under consideration" period are also discussed, alongside greetings and condolences for the poster's family situation.

One last question. I've just been told that because I'm getting an extension again for my Non-O visa that there is no "under consideration" period and I should get the extension stamped and a re-entry permit granted the same day. If this is true I can fly home a week earlier. Can anyone confirm this?

extensions based on retirement are issued on the spot (except at Jomtien where you leave your passport and come back the next day)

Unfortunately I decided to wait a few weeks to get a new extension but my mother passed away suddenly 😢. I'm flying home but as funerals in the UK are running behind I'm still hoping to make it for her funeral and have been told I can apply for the extension this Friday so have all the bank statements, condo contract, forms etc ready. I have a copy of an old TM30 I used last time but tried to get a new one from my condo reception but they say the system has not been available for weeks and ti get a new TM 30 from immigration. I've never heard of this before but is it possible they issue them? I thought it was your landlord who gave it out.

I'm also going to ask if they can fast track the "under consideration" period after all my paperwork is accepted. Do you think this will be possible or just wishful thinking. I'm in Chiang Mai by the way.

many thanks in advance.

Sorry for your loss..

If you haven't been reported TM30 at another address since last time, that old one should be fine.

Bring your booked air tickets (or whatever proof that you are NOT in Thailand for a certain period) and talk with the Immigration officer.

If you can have fixed flight tickets that show exactly when you are out of Thailand, go to talk to your immigration office if they can let you apply earlier. Some immigration offices let you apply more earlier than their standard conditions if you prove you are not in Thailand when the current extension due.

So open tickets wouldn't work for this.

important not to change to non imm OA as it will incur costly mandatory health insurance each year

there is a cheap OA policy available for those ages to age 75 which meets the requirements of the OA for annual extensions.

As long as you qualify, you can always start the process all over again starting with a single entry Non-O visa from the Thai embassy in your country.

If you do renew, don't forget re-entry permit before you leave Thailand, to keep the ext valid.

Sorry to hear of your mother's illness...

Most Thai immigration offices will allow you to apply for the extension of your stay for retirement up to 45 days before the expiration of your current permission to stay date.

What is your current extension based on ...retirement age 50+

Marriage or support of Thai child?
