Just a question for a friend from the UK who came to Thailand on a 60 day visa on the 22nd November who wants to stay to 18th February what course of action does he need to take. Can he just go to the local immigration office and get an extension for a further 30 days or if he crosses into Laos will he only get 7 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A visitor from the UK with a 60-day tourist visa can apply for a 30-day extension at a local immigration office for a fee of 1,900 Thai baht. Alternatively, they can exit to Laos, which typically allows for a re-entry period of 30 days, not just 7 days, upon crossing the border.

Normally you can visit Immigration during the last 30 days of your Admitted to Stay period. Jomtien/Pattaya is sometime more busy and they telt to apply for the Extension during the last 15 days of the Admitted to Stay period.

I think Jomtien lets you go when you have 15 days or less left on your current stamp BUT sometimes if they're busy they'll tell you to come back when there's a week or less..

thanks when does he need to go to immigration for the extension, 7 days before the expiration or can he go now?

IF he arrived on a Tourist Visa he was stamped in for 60 days. Then he can get added 30 days from Thai Immigration 1,900 Thai baht.
