What Are the Best Options for Extending a 30-Day Tourist Visa in Thailand?

PTPA ADMIN.

First time to extend visa. We were given 30 days as tourists and it will end on January 20.

We are planning to extend for a bit longer probably by January 18.

Questions:

1. Is Laos a good choice to exit and re-entry? If yes, what do we need to provide and is it still 90 days visa?

2. What are the other available options and corresponding requirements and validities?

Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses options for extending a 30-day tourist visa in Thailand, specifically inquiring about re-entry via Laos and other extension alternatives. Responses suggest three main options: applying for a 30-day extension at an immigration office for 1900 baht, exiting and re-entering Thailand for a new 30-day visa exempt entry, or obtaining a 60-day tourist visa from a Thai consulate in another country.

There are 3 things you can do to stay longer

1 - GO to the immigration office that serves the area where you stay and get a 30 day extension on the current stamp you have for 1900baht.

2 - GO to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and then stamp back in to thailand to get a NEW 30 day visa exempt entry stamp

3 - GO to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a single entry tourist visa so when you come back in to thailand you get stamped in for 60 days.

Okay, you can get a 30 day extension on your 30 day visa exempt entry stamp at the immigration office for 1900baht

OR

There are two choices

Go to a border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in and out of another country, turn around and stamp back in to thailand to get a 30 day visa exempt entry

OR

Go to a thai consulate in another country and BUY a 60 day tourist visa

You need to make an appointment at the thai consulate in VIentiane to apply for a visa there. You need to show proof of funds (a bank account with at least 20K baht or the equivalent in it) proof of onward travel in 60 - 90 days & sometimes proof of accommodation.
