Can a tourist on a 60-day visa extend their stay in Thailand through a border run?

A colleague who entered Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and has already extended it for another 30 days can perform a land border crossing (known as a 'border bounce') to extend their stay for an additional 30 days. This can be done twice within each calendar year. Upon re-entry, they will receive a 45-day stamp, plus they can apply for another 30-day extension at a Thai immigration office for a fee of 1900 Thai baht.
