Hi guys, my (Brit) mate is heading to Thailand in November. He wants to stay for a couple of months. I know he’ll get 45 days on arrival, but what’s the deal with extending it? Must he do a border run?

Many thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British traveler heading to Thailand in November can initially obtain 45 days on arrival under visa exemption. He can extend his stay by applying for a 30-day extension at an immigration office, totaling 75 days. For a longer stay without a border run, applying for a 60-day tourist visa (which can also be extended for an additional 30 days) is recommended, allowing for 90 days in total. Travelers should also be prepared with necessary documentation, including potential proof of onward travel.

£30 for the 60 day visa (extendable to 90 day) it’s a chore with 12 pieces of paper work but once you do it they granted mine in like 2 days. Easy money. Flying out soon (from UK).

Thanks a lot man 🙏

Have you filled an online application recently? It’s asking me to load up an identity card of a person whose house I’m staying at and also a letter from an employer or pension statement, which obvs don’t apply to my tourist visa app

I didn’t submit any for the application and was not asked to provide additional in that regard but it’s usually at the visa counter you might get that question. In which case always best to have ‘best onward ticket’ ready imo

Should probably look in to getting a 60 day tourist visa, and the 30 day extension. That will offer 90 total days in country... No border runs...

No sweat. He can get a 30 day extension from an immigration office, giving him 75 days total. Too easy

From LHR he'll definately need onward travel within 45 days and almost certainly need it from any other UK airport.

Yes but they might require to see proof of onward travel within 45 days, he needs to check with whoever he will fly with

45 days on arrival with visa exempt, then can get one 30-day extension at immigration. After that would have to do a border run for more time.
