Hi there, I was wondering if someone could please help me. Me and my partner are currently here on a 30 day visa free stay (from the UK) and want to get a 60 day tourist visa. Is this possible to do without leaving the country? Do we just need to go to the immigration office and how long will this take to sort out? If we do have to leave the country does it have to be overnight or can we literally just leave and come back the same day?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A 60-day tourist visa cannot be obtained while staying in Thailand; you must leave the country to apply for it at a Thai embassy or consulate. Alternatively, you can extend your current stay by obtaining a 30-day extension at a local immigration office for 1,900 baht. Some users suggest a 'border bounce', where you exit and re-enter Thailand on the same day, although regulations differ based on the border. Be wary of your visa history, as immigration officers may have records that could affect future entries.

It is my understanding that a tourist visa doesn't guarantee you entrance to Thailand.

The government don't want people to live in the country on exemption and Tvs.

For the actual tourist visa you will need to leave the country and apply at an embassy/consulate for the visa, I usually use Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia but you need to book an appointment in advance here. The process can take

days it is not like the border bounce.

The other option is doing a border bounce, some borders you will be able to exit and re enter the same day some you will have to spend the night or two on the non Thai side and then extend it for another 30 days at your local immigration office for 1900 baht, essentially giving you 60 days.

If you want to get a Single Entry Tourist Visa, you need to visit the embassy/consulate in a nearby country to apply for it. Tourist visas are not available inside Thailand.

It depends on how you want to enter Thailand (visa exempt for 30 days or SETV for 60 days) how long you need to stay in another country.

These are the common found requirements for the 30 days extension. Be sure you have a TM30 on file with Thai Immigration as most offices are requiring one to be filed.

You can’t get a tourist visa from within Thailand. You can get a 30 day extension at a local immigration office for 1,900 baht.

Alternatively you can “border bounce” where you exit Thailand and immediately re-enter. By air no time restrictions other that available flight times. By land that may differ depending on the border you use.

Another alternative is to go to a nearby Thai consulate and buy a new tourist visa there. Called a visa run.

Go to your local Thai Immigration office for a 30 day extension of stay.. 1900 Thai baht.

Available One time ONLY per entry into Thailand.

To stay longer you can do a BORDER BOUNCE to get a NEW 30 day VISA EXEMPT ENTRY stamp. Plus one 30 day extension. This can be done 2 times EACH CALENDAR YEAR.

I used a 6 month METV visa to come in initially. When that ran out I went out and back in on 30 day exempt. My first time coming in exempt. Immigration said they put a note on system that they'd advised me next time I need to have a visa to enter. And they may not let me in without.

For context, next time I border bounce, I will get 60 day visa, extend 30 days. And the time after that I only want to come in exempt as will be for shorter time.

So my question. You say we are allowed 2 x exempt entries per year. Will this be confirmed on embassy website?

UK passport. Thanks.

, it's not confirmed by Thai Embassy website, but an announcement was issued by consular division, MFA.

by land 2a year fly until they stop you and deny entry

The METV multiple entry tourist visa with planning can get you up to 9 months stay in Thailand.

However back to back use of the METV or other entries may be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival.

no confirmation on Thai Embassy website...

You can get 2 LAND BORDER entries into Thailand EACH CALENDAR YEAR.. Plus one 30 day extension of stay= 60 days EACH Entry.

If you try to get a Thai tourist visa in Laos... . then follow their requirements carefully.

Do NOT fly into Thailand if you can avoid it IF you have a recent history of staying in Thailand with use of various visa exempt entry, extensions and visas.
