Fellow member & Admin.

I will be arriving in Thailand on 27th September to hopefully live long term based on a 10 year marriage to a Thai National. I understand the funding & seasoning. This week I had intended applying for a 3 month non-immigrant O visa based on marriage, but it has crossed my mind to apply for a 12 month multi entry O visa, which would save on getting re-entry permits, as I would like to visit neighbouring countries.

My question is, on the 12 month visa, what would be the ACTUAL requirements, e.g. Would I have to report every 90 days, would I need to leave the country after a particular period and could the visa be extended another 12 months if i re-entered Thailand before the 'enter before stamp'.

I am 56 yr old but don't see the need to apply for retirement visa.

Any advice would be helpful.

Ps for others info, the Thai Embassy in London UK have advised visa applications by post due to renovations, 5 working day turnaround.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks information about the requirements for obtaining a 12-month Non-Immigrant O Visa based on marriage to a Thai national, including 90-day reporting, necessary travel intervals, and eligibility for extensions. A comment provides clarity, stating that with this visa, one can stay for 90 days per entry and needs a border run afterward. It also explains that for a longer stay, one can apply for a one-year Extension of Stay at Immigration.

If you have the 1 year Non Immigrant O Visa based on marriage you get 90 days of stay at each entry, than you have to do a border run, you do not need to do 90 day reports because you can not stay longer than 90 days. At the end of the Visa you can apply for the 1 year Extension of Stay at Immigration. You can also choose for the Single Entry Non Immigrant O, gives you 90 days on entry, apply after 60 days for the Extension of Stay based on marriage, it will get 30 days under consideration, after those 30 days get your 1 year Extension and apply directly for the multiple re-entry permit so you can travel in and out at your own convenience, but if you stay longer than 90 days you report yourself at Immigration.

Last simple question guys, if I arrive in Thailand on 27th, does that count as my first day or the 28th ?

if you do a border run just before the visa expires, you can get another 90 day which makes it about a 15 month visa. Plus a two more land crossing can extend you stay longer. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well the first 4 months I will be living in Hua Hin, so could border run to Ban Pu Nam Ron in Myanmar, but also have inlaw family in NE Isaan Kalasin , so could use the friendship bridge with Loas ..... plus I will need to return to UK at least twice in the first year.... so I guess the 12 months would suit me best....... thank you guys.

I have had both visa's over the past 13 years and as I live within 2 hours of a land border crossing, my preference would be the 12 month multi entry. I find the process of applying in Thailand & 90 day reporting painful. BUT as said, it's a personal preference.

I went for the Single Entry Non Immigrant Visa and the 90 days of stay, and applied 60 days later for the 1 year Extension. I did not have any travel plans and I did not like the idea to go every 90 days to a border and back. But as said it is an personal choice. If you plan to travel several times the first year to other countries I would say go for the 1 year Non Immigrant Visa.

The financial requirement isn't an issue as I already have the funds in a Thai bank.

The one year Multiple Non Immigrant O visa you have to travel every 90 days till valid until date on the visa, for the Extension of Stay you need to meet the financial requirements. They are different, it is a personal choice.

So would you say there are any benefits or negatives of one over the other ?
Robert *******
The Extension of Stay is 1.900 Thb and the Multiple re-entry Permit is 3.800 Thb and valid during the Extension of Stay.

Thank you Robert, if I chose the single entry for 90 days, what would be the current cost of a multi entry permit ?
