TLDR : Answer Summary
With a multiple entry NON-O visa, you are permitted to stay in Thailand for 90 days each entry. After this period, you can either exit and return to Thailand or apply for a one-year extension at a local immigration office, depending on your specific situation and eligibility.

They are now issuing these multi-entry type O visas based on Thai wife for bt5000 at the Thai consulate in Savanakhet, without needing the bt400,000 in the bank, good for 90 days on each entry. In Bangkok as soon as you have your Thai bank account, and the bt400,000 in it for at least two months, and get the other documents, you can apply for your one year extension. You do not have to wait for the multi-entry visa to expire. That only applies to the type OA retirement visa, at least at the main immigration office in Bangkok.

If you're going to receive the 1 year multiple entry non-O visa from your embassy (a bit rare) then you're only going to receive permission to be in Thailand for 90 days each time you enter the country. You'll either need to leave and return every 90 days, or you can apply for the 1 year extension from your local immigration office.
, as long as the multiple entry Non-O is still valid you cannot extend it. If that should be possible the visa needs to be cancelled. In practical terms, you must wait to apply for an extension till the visa validity period has ended and your current permitted stay (stamp) has about 1 month till that expires also.
Incorrect. You can apply for the yearly extention of stay or the 60 days visit Thai dependants extention of stay on any of your entries on a multi-entry non imm O visa based on marriage, you dont have to cancel the visa or wait for it to expire.
, that contradicts the principle of not being possible to have two visas at the same time, and also my experience from trying to do what you propose. There is basically no reason to extend a Non-O still valid, that was the explanation my IM told me. Let's say some IM would extend it without canceling it in the first place, then what will happen if you want to leave and re-enter Thailand? Now you would exactly have two visas, i.e. your multiple Non-O is still valid, and your Non-O extension also being valid for re-entering with a re-enter permit. Which one should they stamp you on?
You haven't got 2 visas at the same time. You've got a visa and an extention of stay, the same way you can extend an entry on a multi-entry tourist visa. The point is why would you? But it is possible, you dont need to wait for the visa to expire. The extention of stay stamp overides your visa.
, again, my Immigration refused to do it. And also, you do not consider the situation I am talking about leaving end re-entering Thailand. Maybe a 60-Day family extension would be possible, not sure. But this is only possible one time in the "lifetime" of your original Non-O. i.e. to get a second family extension you will need a brand new non-extended Non-O. Somehow you assume that when getting an extension on a multiple Non-O it is automatically converted into a single or zero-entry Non-O. It starts to be very creative.
I'm not assuming anything, the yearly extention will override your visa because it will expire after your visa expires, unlike a 60 days visit Thai dependants extention.
, do you have anything to back up your theory? As said, I was told by my IM that I could not get an annual extension until my multiple Non-O had expired.
