How long can I stay in Thailand on a Non-O visa based on marriage, and do I need to leave the country periodically?

Hi group. I've decided to apply for a Non O visa based on marriage (multiple entries) when I travel to Thailand next month. Everything regarding the necessary documents is explained very well at the Thai Embassy webpage in Copenhagen but, there is no explanation for how long I can stay and whether I have to leave the country every two or three months. I normally travel on a tourist visa with multiple entries which is valid for six months and a trip to Laos every second month. Could you please inform me about how long I can stay and wether have to leave the country or "only" have to show up at the emigrations office. Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses applying for a Non-O visa based on marriage. Generally, recent experiences suggest that applicants are often issued a 90-day single entry visa, rather than a multiple entry. After the initial period, if you wish to stay longer, you may need to apply for an extension of stay in Thailand. There is uncertainty regarding the need to leave the country periodically; it appears that current regulations are stricter and may require applicants to fulfill additional requirements before entry.

All I'm saying
@Ku**
is that the time before this covid-shit show started when you could just go to the embassy and buy a visa is past. It's not like that anymore.

The reports I'm reading from foreigners who have gotten permission to re-enter thailand based on marriage or raising thai children have been that the embassy will only issue a 90 day single entry Non-O.

Best to check with the consulate in your country when you apply for permission to enter thailand and go thru the process of having the 100K USD covid insurance, the fit to fly certificate, the negative covid test, the booked 14 day quarantine here at the approved place, etc.

Good Luck, report back and let us know IF they sell you a year multi-entry Non-O or just a 90 day single entry..

Every successful report I've read of a foreigner married to a thai applying for permission to get IN to thailand from abroad has only gotten a 90 day single entry Non-O visa issued (no matter if their embassy shows a multi-entry available or not).

They know you can't bounce out and in, and that the 90 day single entry will get you in, get you thru quarantine and then you can work on meeting the requirements to get the year long in country extension of stay

I know, that the borders are closed now. I just couldn't find any information about what to do (border run or emigration). You have explained that very well, thank you. As to the rest of it, I have found a lot of useful information here since I joined the group but I have also learned that there is a very big difference to the information and "requirements" from embassy to embassy and from different emigration offices throughout Thailand which sometimes makes our life somewhat difficult. πŸ˜‰πŸ™‚

If you do somehow get a multiple entry non o and manage to get here, you will be admitted for 90 days

You are not going to just apply for a non-O visa based on marriage and then come to thailand next month. Those days are gone now. You must apply for permission to enter thailand at the thai consulate in your country by meeting the requirements. Also as far as we can tell anyone who has gone thru the process to get approval to enter the country is sold only a single entry 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage meaning you will get stamped in ONCE for 90 days and then after that need to apply for an extension to stay longer..

Join one of the foreigners stranded abroad due to the thai lock down f/b groups and get familiar with the process you go thru to request permission to enter, the requirements you need to meet etc.

The first part is exactly my question. On a normal multiple-entry, I will have to do a border run every two months and, as you explained, on a multiple-entry based on marriage, I will have to do it every three months and on top of that, a lot of paperwork to prove my marriage and verify income/savings, etc. which I don't on a multiple tourist visa (done this for the past 8 years). Anyway, I do thank you for the information and will go with my wife to the embassy to see what they say. I don't think the are very busy at the moment πŸ€”β˜ΊοΈ

Thank you for your answer. :-) I do have Covid attest and I get a new one on the day of our flight. According to The Thai Embassy in Copenhagen, I can apply for a multi-entry visa based on marriage.

I don't quite understand the logic of the Thai Embassy Copenhagen. A Multi Entry visa based on marriage would need you make a border run every 90 days. I am wondering if the Embassy has got a crystal ball and can foresee that borders to Thailand's neighbours will be opened within the next 90 days, and allow you to do a border bounce. And will you skip the 14-day quarantine requirement when re-entering Thailand? You should ask the Copenhagen Embassy on more detail on this issue. The advice Tod Daniels gave you is more stringent. Try to fullfill the requirements (400,000 THB on your bank acc for 2 months on the date of application) for application to a 1-year extension of stay based on marriage, gives you peace of mind, and you won't have to do any border runs
