I got a DTV on 27th Dec and the passport in my application it will expire on 15 Dec 2026. I just arrived today in thailand and i was stamped 6 months.
It is clear that i need to get a new passport before june and before leaving thailand.
- once i have the new passport do i need to go to the immigration office and ask to put a transfer or special stamp in my new passport?
- will i need to carry always both passports with me?
Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on handling their DTV visa after getting a new passport, specifically about transferring the visa to the new passport and whether they need to carry both passports. Community members suggest printing the visa, carrying both passports and a copy of the visa for proof, and going to an immigration office to have the visa transferred to the new passport. It's emphasized that carrying both passports is necessary, especially if the old one contains a valid visa.
You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight βοΈ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.
Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.
@ANONOMOUS MEMBERyes until you head to immigration to geothermal stamp transferred to new passport. Is your visa digital or actually paper in your new passport?
Present both passports at immigration at the airport. You will receive a stamp in your new passport. Then go to your local immigration office. They will transfer the DTV visa to your new passport. There is also a form for this at the immigration office.
Anonymer Teilnehmer Yes you can. Once the visa has been transferred, you no longer need the old passport. You don't necessarily need to have it with you, but I would definitely keep it safe.
Iβd speak with whatever passport issuing authority there is in your country as often times you can retain your old passport but they will cancel/invalidate it (generally by hole punching it).
