I hope to get some answers from this fine group. If I am in my home country, and I get a new passports and the DTV is applied with my old passport, is there anything that I need to do on my end to "transfer" (I know it is a piece of paper) the visa to the new passport?

Should I bring the old passport with me when entering Thailand again just in case?

Thanks in advance :-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you receive a new passport while holding a Thai visa in an old passport, it is essential to carry both the old and new passports when entering Thailand to avoid any issues. The visa is tied to the passport number, and while it cannot be directly transferred, the immigration system can update your visa information based on your fingerprints and photo, given that the visa is still valid. It is advisable to consult with the embassy or immigration authorities for the best course of action.

I ask this from embassy and Thailand main immigration before applicate DTV and they said DTV is passport number based and need to be renew if you lost or renew your passport. So if you wan’t to be 100% get in the country, you should do new application for DTV. (Same reason I took new passport before DTV even I have years in old one). Obviously embassies does not make the approval, it is immigration, but I definetly would ask this from your country embassy as well.

Bring both old and new passport. The immigration office should see you in the computer system when you do your fingerprints and photo, this will show them you have a visa already, this will get updated to reflect your new passport. They may ask for the old passport the first time this is done. After that you shouldn't need both when re-entering. If the visa is inside the old passport I would always travel with it.

Wayne Billman What also might help is get a remark in the new passport by the issuing instance, that tells it is a replacement of the old passport with number.

The DTV visa as evisa is issued with passport number.

But to be sure best is to trave;l with both passports

You cannot transfer the visa, best thing is to bring both passports during the validity of the visa.

Better get new passport first when it expires that soon.

you can transfer the visa to a new passport by visiting a Thai immigration office

no, immigration only can transfer stamps in your passport which are placed by immigration, not a visa issued by MFA

oh yes correct. My last visa was moved to my new passport as it was done inside Thailand

Thanks but that doesnt sound right. With that reasoning, I would have to travel with two passports the entire duration of the visa.

Anonieme deelnemer that is the correct conclusion, if you like it or not.

You should have thought about that before in case you don't like it

Why the snippy attitude? I appreciate your answer and feedback but taking it to that level of snippy attitude is completely unwarranted.

Anonieme deelnemer You are the one saying "that does not sound right"
