My passport expire 2028 and I recently got approved for the DTV. Now I’m stressed how to sort this out and if my DTV will be invalid and that I need to apply again once I renew the passport?

Honestly I don’t knew the passport number will change every time you renewing the passport. And my country only issue 5 years passports.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual expresses concern about the validity of their DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in relation to their passport renewal, indicating a lack of awareness that passport numbers change upon renewal. The discussion involves several community members sharing their experiences. Key advice includes carrying both the old and new passports, as well as the DTV documentation, when traveling or at immigration. It is noted that one does not need to reapply for the DTV but must inform immigration during the passport renewal process.

I just had to get a new passport as I ran out of pages.

When you are at immigration you just need to give them the old passport that is linked to the DTV as well as the new current passport.

You don’t need to apply again or transfer the DTV to the new passport

When you renew your passport you get letter from embassy for the new passport, then you go immigration with both passports to change stamps onto new passport. Done this 4 times in Thailand.

If you're stressed over this, maybe stay home. The visa is for you not a specific passport. When you use the visa on your new passport, carry the old one or have a copy if not available.

If you lose your passport you can get another one sent here and the date should be later

You just need a copy or picture of old stamp. They will restamp you with what you had. I don’t think they’ll make you reapply

Anonymous participant 199 of course not, it is good with any passport you have, many passports expire, the DTV Visa is good for 5 years, what a silly discussion
Luit *****************
Klee Otto Rogers The visa is only valid for the old passport.

That is why you have to bring old and new passport for the rest of the period.

And when you lost the old passport it has to be reported as lost or stolen which for most countries means the visa also is reported as lost or stolen.

Anonieme deelnemer 199 For a lost passport you normally need to reapply for all visa.

I said normally, but there might be exceptions

The exception being all visas 😂 because this is flatly false

As I said before, but you have missed that obviously, "you NORMALLY", so some countries might have other procedures for this.

When you say flatly false, maybe you should give an example of a country that has a different procedure, and describe that procedure.

Maybe when I show the official text from your home country about this:

Report your Visa Lost/Stolen to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate Abroad

To report your visa lost or stolen, email the Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate outside the United States which issued your visa. Go to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website to locate the email address and contact information. Be sure to include your full name, date of birth, place of birth, address in the United States, and an e-mail address (if available). Specifically state whether the visa was lost or stolen. If you have a copy of the passport or visa, scan and email this to the embassy or consulate. Otherwise, if known, report the category of visa, and the passport number from the lost/stolen visa.

If you have already reported your visa lost/stolen to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, and then you later find your misplaced visa, then your visa will be invalid for future travel to the United States. Therefore, in that situation you must apply for a new visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

Most countries have about the same rules for this situation as it is the most safe and logical thing to do.

If you worked with an agency to get your DTV, work with an agency to get your passport changed at immigration. Without an agency they might ask for your up to date financial information and if it isn’t perfect it could turn out bad. Use an agency.

really? Its clear you know nothing about transfer of a visa to a new passport. Immigration want nothing but the 2 passports and the visa

My passport also expires in 2028. My DTV runs until 2030. The advice I have seen is to carry both passports with you + DTV print out at the border for the remainder of the DTV and the immigration officer will stamp your new passport.
