My DTV visa was approved but my passport is almost full. I know it’s just a printed piece of paper but what happens when I get a new passport and passport number?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When you obtain a new passport while having a DTV visa, it is essential to manage the transition properly. You have a few options: generally, you should carry both your old and new passports together whenever you travel. While some expats report that immigration might not require the old passport, it is advisable to link your visa to the new passport at an immigration office. The old passport with the valid DTV must still be available, even if it is full. Keep the original passport handy and be prepared for possible confusion at borders.

Bring along the old and new passport together whenever you go or you can go to immigration to transfer the visa into the new passport.

Malle sure you keep the original passport. If your embassy. Doesn’t want to give it, ask them to cut off some of the passport front cove. This is a worldwide standard to invalidate the passport as an ID but to retain your visa and display your entry/expected exit date.

The DTV isn’t transferable into a new passport. Your old passport with DTV must be still valid though, even without empty pages.

You don’t need to do anything. I came in recently on my new passport, and DTV linked to old passport, and they didn’t care to see the old passport at all

Anonymer Teilnehmer 385 he seems to still have a visa sticker in his passport, not an e-visa .pdf document. The DTV visa sticker is NOT transferable, because it was issued by an embassy. Immigration is NOT a part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration does NOT have any of those stickers at hand. What Immigration will exactly do is unclear, but they cannot transfer the "visa". You will probably be told to KEEP the old passport with the sticker, because the sticker is a valid visa with a visa validity of 5 years.

Anonymous participant 385 You can't. That's not something they will do. I have this in written confirmation from the Thai authorities. You simply need to take both your new and old passports with the DTV

that’s right they will stamp new one which means going forward at the port of entry they will see your new passport linked to the DTV. So you’re all set 🙌

Anonymous participant 698 I think you risk not being let in on DTV anymore then and have to re-apply. But I am confused, cause when I translated the stamp I got from immigration after transfering it, it looks like the entire DTV has been transfered, but they still told me to carry both passports
