Hello, I am planning to apply for a DTV visa soon. However, my passport expires in a little over 3 years.

My question is: will it be possible to transfer a DTV visa to the new passport? Whether it is an e-visa or a visa affixed to the passport by the embassy?

Indeed, I read on a Thai embassy website that DTV e-visas are not transferable to a new passport. If this is not the case, I should think about applying for a new passport before applying for the DTV.

Thank you for your information if you have any ๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is inquiring about the transferability of a DTV visa to a new passport due to their current passport expiring in a little over three years. They have heard that DTV e-visas are non-transferable and are considering whether to apply for a new passport before applying for the DTV visa. Commenters advise that it is best to obtain a new passport for a smoother visa application process, as there may be complications with visa issuance based on the expiration date of the current passport. They suggest that if you have both passports, you can use the old one until the DTV expires.

Thanks for your answers. It's very clear.

If you say you loose it you need any way a police report in Switzerland

Just go make new one because you want a new one, no problem, bring the old and they will void it

Is it just to make people's lifes miserable that they make everything complicated as hell?

If you lose your passport before applying for your visa, you can apply for a new passport in your home country
John **********
Nope. You can now only get an evisa. Simplest solution is to get a new passport before you apply but you can just carry both passports
Jan ******************
You can just use both passports until the DTV expires.

Do yourself a favor and get a NEW passport. That will simplify your years with the DTV visa with a full 5 years visa stamp.

There are a few, but rare, reports of Thai Embassy or Consulate only issuing the DTV visa for the time remaining on the passport expiration date when you submit your application for the DTV visa.
