Hi everyone, thank you for helping in advance, me and my wife have been trying to get a Thai e-visa (tourist), so we sent in our application (separately) 6 days ago to the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing. I'm a 38-year-old Hungarian, with a Chinese residence permit, since my wife is a Chinese citizen. As far as I knew Thai e-visas application should last about 5-10 working days, and because I'm not applying from my home country it might take a month or so, but I was hoping we would get it faster. We booked our flight for September 13, thinking that 5-6 weeks should be enough time. Well. today the embassy in Beijing got back to both of us, sending me an e-mail in which they said that they started processing my visa, and "this might take approximately eight weeks". Did any of you have such a long waiting time to get your visa done? I'm guessing it's because I'm in China and there are tons of people here now who are trying to get to Thailand, or it might have to do with the fact that I'm not a Chinese citizen, or is it normal that I've received such a message and after all I might get it within a few weeks?

And our fun doesn't end here, because they cancelled my wife's visa altogether, saying "There is an incorrect information on passport information in your online application (Wrong name), hence your online application has been cancelled." The only possible thing that we can think of is that we mixed up her family name with her first name, but unfortunately there's no way we could check it now. Did anyone receive a similar message before? I'm guessing there's no way to continue with her application now, and we have to start from scratch losing the application fee, but I'm curious if anyone had similar issues before, and how were they solved? My wife sent an e-mail to the embassy and we're planning to call them tomorrow (they only have visa inquiry phone service between 3-4pm each weekday), but I'm not confident we would be able to reach them. And now I'm getting quite worried that we wouldn't be able to travel on September 13.

Thanks again for any info!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster and their wife applied for a Thai e-visa from the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing and experienced long processing times. They learned that processing could take approximately eight weeks, especially since the poster is not a Chinese citizen. Their wife's application was cancelled due to a mistake in her passport information. After contacting the embassy, they were advised to reapply, incurring an additional fee. Ultimately, the poster's visa application was approved shortly after following up, and they highlighted the importance of carefully checking application details to avoid mistakes.

Update: thanks for the messages, we managed to reach the embassy today, and they confirmed what we suspected, we mixed up my wife's family name with her first name, hence they cancelled her visa and we need to start a new application paying the application fee again, and she said they would finish it in 5-10 working days. After asking about my 8-week waiting time for my visa, they said that I might get it earlier, or maybe even later, the woman on the phone suggested that I write an e-mail to the embassy that my flight is in September. An hour after the phone call, my visa application was suddenly approved. They gave us a good scare yesterday, but if we don't mess up my wife's second application, then everything should be fine for our September arrival.

Just come on the visa exempt & your wife does a visa on arrival as Chinese.

it would be a great option if we only stayed short term, but we were planning on staying for 3 months

this is very common sense approach if they don’t need to be there more than two weeks….

In some countries they process the applications by departure date and not by the date of submitting the application.

Meaning the visa will not be granted before the last week up to departure.

We have very little information from evisa through China since covid. Most reports are very long processing times (I don't think this has anything to do with number of applications, it's just how they do it).

Yeah, I know it is a long shot, I was just wondering if maybe somebody got similar messages back when applying for e-visa, in any case, I will keep this post updated, maybe others can learn from our experience in the future.

If it's true, I can't say I blame them. It just sucks for us applying from here.

there was a rumor at one point that Thai people applying for a visa to China was taking very long to process so the Thai embassy in China returned the favor by adding very long processing times. Not sure if it's true or not.
