TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is facing a situation where their flight is postponed one day past their visa expiry date. Community responses indicate that having a one-day overstay is generally not problematic. They suggest that the airport may waive the 500 Baht fee for stays less than 24 hours, but a stamp indicating the overstay will be placed in the passport. It's advised to explain the situation at the airport, as it typically does not lead to severe consequences or blacklisting.

Man you got some good and some total shit answers here. 😕

No matter what anyone says here's how the law actually is written.

IF you have an overstay of less than 24 hours and you show up at the airport to fly out they will waive the 500baht overstay fine BUT they will put a stamp in your passport (in thai) that says overstay under 24 hours fine waived.

One day, no ploblem, falang pay

not correct at all

if only one day Thai immigration at airport will waive the 500 Thai baht overstay fee but will place stamp in your passport showing the one day overstay.

just another excuse for a shake down

not true... You are violating the Thai Immigration Law... And could be subject to harsh penalties if they really wanted to shake you down. Be thankful that they grant a one day grace period ...when clearing immigration on your way out of Thailand.

So you will have one day overstay... worst case this will cost you 500 Baht, that's it. But normally they will not even ask for that if you explain the reason. Just go to the airport on 1st of december, everything will be fine. And don't worry about the blacklist, it's not meant for "cases" like yours... :-)

Bad record? Hundreds of thousands overstay every year.

You have a current extension of stay which expires on 30 November or you got a sticker in your passport and you have to enter by 30 November?

Either way, just phone the airline and bring your flight forward.

@Dar***
, you will be fine. There's a 500b per day and no other penalty for a short overstay like that. I was three days over a month ago and was just waved through. I'd actually talked it over with TE before and they said just pay it if asked. No record.

Banned for five years for a one day overstay?

I didn't invent the rules, just citing them.

I don't like false or wrong information either, and I very rarely post about things I do not know about.

You and the rest in here are correct that a small overstay for the majority will mean absolutely nothing. I have overstayed myself several times, and I probably have a longer overstay than the rest of the people in this thread have combined.

I ain't no saint, and what people they do are none of my business. But I think that people should know the complete rules before they make their decision to overstay or not. 🙂

@Darren ******
It's a one day overstay because your airline postponed your flight? If you explain it at immigration I doubt they will even bother fining you. Even if they do, it's not going to get you banned. I wouldn't worry about it.
Ulrik *********
@Kevin **********
the chances of getting caught on a 1 day overstay are almost non existing. But if you are caught you will get banned for 5 years..

Also it can cause you problems down the road. For example 2 X 1 day overstay within 3 years, and you can not apply for the elite visa.

I agree that in most cases 1 day overstay is not a big deal, but I see no reason to challenge faith, when it can be avoided.
Ulrik *********
@Berto *****
because getting caught and leave on your own are not the same thing, and don't have the same penalties. No reason to be rude cause you don't really know the overstay rules.
Berto ******
@Ulrik ********
Please show the Thai information that says you will be banned for 5 years for a 1 day overstay.

Otherwise you are just stating an option or hearsay.

I on the other hand, am actually stating a fact that happened to me.

As for being rude, so so so so sorry if I offended your feelings 😂.

I just don't like people spreading false information.

I left the day after my visa expired, I didn't have to pay 500 thb but I got a big stamp in my passport instead.
Berto ******
@Jessica ****************
Did you get an exit stamp, the same as everyone else.

If it was something else please post the pic.

@Berto *****
It's in a old passport, but it did said overstay. And after that I got the regular exit stamp as well.

I thought it would be 🤣

each to their own, personally I'd just go and get the stamp for peace of mind

OK just seen you've changed it to show leaving Thailand and not entering as I thought you were trying to do.

In which case, can't they put you on an earlier flight? If they can't, and you have to leave on 30 November, then you'll have to book with another airline.

Alternatively, if you can leave on 1 December then you can always apply for the unable to travel due to covid extension to cover the additional day so you don't get any comment put in your passport.

I have to leave Thailand 30 Nov, and not extendable. I have called airline. They just want me cancel the ticket. And rebook other airline company. But same day. No direct flight to my country.
