Hey all, just a quick question! My tourist visa expires on the 24th of November but my flight out is the 26th. Should I get an extension before I leave? I know it's 500 baht per day if you overstay I just don't know how much of a hassle to expect at the airport if I go that route?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about whether to extend their tourist visa which expires on November 24th while their flight is scheduled for November 26th. Community feedback suggests that it is highly advisable to obtain an extension to avoid the hassle of overstaying. While some individuals shared experiences of having minor overstays without severe consequences, they warn that there could be significant risks involved, including potential arrest or fines. The general consensus leans towards paying the extension fee to ensure a smooth departure and to maintain a clean passport record.

I overstayed by 4 hours a couple years ago, they didn't put an overstay stamp, a different kind of stamp noting the overstay, but approving it, no fine either. They let me off the hook basically. Every time I enter, the immigration officials look at, but it's never been an issue.

However after saying that, I wouldn't recommend it, you're likely going to cause yourself unnecessary grief.

If you never plan on coming back, you could chance it and hope you don't get arrested.

You're best off going to immigration and explaining the issue, they should provide you a legal solution. Worst case 1900฿ might be money well spent.

I rather pay 1900 THB and have the extention. Overstay stamp is the last thing I want on my passport.

Overstay is against the Immigration laws of Thailand, I think you all understand that. It is the same as speeding with you car in your home land or passing a red traffic light, it is against the law. Can you do it once, twice or maybe 5 days a week? Sure, no problem, till Police see it and give you a ticket. So, as some people say: Overstay no problem, they would also advice you to ignore red traffic lights in your country, no problem if there is no other traffic or Police watching.

How many times have I been to thailand.

If I do visa runs or fly out I always do it a day early.

You don't want a over stay stamp.

Sensible advice - if you're going to stay at the Hotel or wherever & not go out you'll have no trouble - just 2 x B500 to pay - but if you are 'going out' especially at night and do hit a check in the two days you will be arrested - I did exactly as you describe - 2 days only - but I was at my usual apartment & didn't go out until taking morning taxi ride to airport

Read some comments far out totally off the mark. The way I see it you are over staying one day.Ive overstayed a few days coped the fine never had any problems entering back into Thailand .You will get pulled over to one side at passport control if your lucky they may just overlook it and wave you on,just smile a lot.

Not sure why I'm justifying myself to an idiot but will do anyway .Read my post properly. My post says that I overstayed and coped the fine and had no trouble re entering.

Even 1 day over stay will equate to a stamp in his passport, despite a fine. Even on my Multi Entry I've been pulled back for a second look, don't encourage him for god's sake he will get an over stay stamp !!!

Never overstay. Some other countries don't like overstay stamps. (example Japan). A Long shot but You might get busted and jailed in case of random police check.

Extend and keep your passport clean plus if you do hit a check in the two days you will be arrested

1,900 thb extend for 30 days. Leave with no hassle at all. I would rather do this then having an overstay penalty and stamp in my passport for other countries to see each time I travel. You wouldn't find that a bit embarrassing? You'll be questioned about it everywhere you go when customs sees it.

Do you plan on coming back soon?

Good to know, thanks

if travel by air to Laos the overstay is a problem, you will be denied boarding. As a general rule it is no problem to pay the THB1,000.- at airport. Robert Lagas summed it up nicely and correctly.

In the unlikely event of a Police check of their passports during those 2 days, they will be arrested, jailed, going to court and be deported and blacklisted. I would go for an Extension to avoid all this. There are reports that Laos Airlines do not let you board to Laos from Thailand with an overstay stamp. Never seen reports of other countries.

I would extend. No hassle and no overstay stamp in your passport.
