What are my options if my Tourist Visa in Thailand expires one day before my flight?

I have a 60 day Tourist Visa that expires on the 22nd of January. I miss calculated the 60 days and purchased a flight out of Thailand for the 23rd...one day after my visa expires.

I have gone to immigration and they have told me my only option is to get a one month extension....which is 1900THB.

I thought there was a 7 day extension or something along those lines?

Thank you for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 60-day Tourist Visa expiring on January 22 but planned a flight for January 23, resulting in a potential overstay. They were advised about options including a one-month extension costing 1900THB, and some users shared experiences indicating a 500 baht daily overstay fee might be waived for short overstays at certain airports. The user successfully managed to exit Thailand on January 22 without issue, and further discussions focused on reporting to immigration for future visa applications.

Thought you all should know that I was able to check into my flight the night before and am now past immigration....stamped out of Thailand on the 22nd.

....now to get cozy and sleep at the airport’s international terminal and await my 7am departure...

, just to ease your mind, kids under 15 can't be fined for overstay no matter how long they stay and kids under 18 can't be banned for overstay.
Tod *********
I'm not saying they shouldn't be on a visa :/ They should :)

All I'm saying children can't be fined for overstay until they're 15 and they can't be banned for overstay until they're 18.
Pete *****
Thanks Tod. To clarify this. Are you saying that so long as the parent has a valid visa then the child can stay with them? Ie: I don't need to renew my child's visa through the course of my year ed visa? Do you know where I am able to validate this officially please?
Troy ************
Its just a 500baht a day overstay. Just dont overstay to long or can get a ban. But my mate overstayed 2 years and juat had to pay a 30k baht fine and 3 year ban
Troy ************
Yeah youll be sweet :)

Troy Theunissen thanks. If it was just me I think I wouldn't be as concerned, but it's me and my two young kids here in Thailand so I'm extra cautious about making sure to do everything right. It helps to hear everyone's perspective and experiences
Troy ************
Youll be fine. My first time i was in thailand i miasread the date and overstayes a month lol. Juat padi the 500baht a day fine (

baht :s) and they let me get another visa

I'll be overstaying by 7 hours....maybe they will pro-rate the fee and only charge me part of the 500THB (joke joke)
Troy ************
But i overatayed 1 month and had to pay 15k at the border when going to get a new 1. Just paid the fine and they gave me a new visa and was sweet after that. Just make sure you read the datea
Malcolm *******
I did exactly the same, I was taken to another desk and I apologised and said it was my mistake and offered to pay the fine, but he said it's your first time so no fine no problem. Ps, no stamp either.

This was January 7th just gone
Geoff *******
I did the same a couple of years ago. The officer pointed it out and said, effectively, 'don't do it again'. No stamp or fine...
Pete *****
Bring the flight forward a day?
Dan *********
just pay 500 baht airport for overstay
Bim *******
No fee for one day. My son had the same problem. Just a stamp.
Tony *********
I always stay for 89 days reson being i had a2.30 a.m flight once when i used to stay the full 90.

But just got the departure stamp before midnight. Them late flights do catch people out.
Tod *********
If you really are flying out with just a single day overstay AND are leaving from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang they usually waive the 500 baht overstay fine and just put a small stamp in your passport saying your overstay was less than one day

hmm that’s outside my experience. It might be worth it to ask the question in a new post to grab folks who maybe have gone though something similar.

I think he might be OK With just the TM.30 but I’m not sure

I’m arriving at the airport the night before anyways so I figure I would go and talk to the ticket counter once I land at BKK

@Chris ******
yeah a certificate of residence. Went to immigration and paid 500THB so I could pick it up he next day. If you want it free then you have to wait 30 days I believe. You need a copy of your rental agreement, TM.30, copy of passport and picture. Then bring your international license and the certificate to the motor vehicle place
Frank **************
@Chris ******
I would call them and ask.
Chris *******
@Meredith ********
and residence certificate I suppose?
Chris *******
Usually the earliest possible check-in time is 3-4 hours to the flight departure. without boarding pass you will not go further.

I have an international driving license so I was able to apply to get the Thai license without taking the test. I just had to watch a 1 hour safety video.

@Frank *************
yeah I have actually been considering that.

I’m wondering if Air Asia will allow me to check in that early so I can get past immigration before midnight
Frank **************
@Meredith ********
Your flight goes 7 am that means you have to be at the airport around 4:30 - 5 am sorry I don't get it: What is the problem to be there just before midnight 11;30 pm. No overstay no payment from 500 Baht only be there 5 hours earlier.

@Meredith ********
sorry for the offtopic but did you convert ot applied for new licence?
Richard *****
CM immigration are very hot on filing/updating the TM30. Take TM30 slip to upstairs office at Promenada within 24 hours of returning to the address and they will stamp and update the form with the new number from the landing/departure card.

@T**
OH! I have one 100%. I used it to get my cert. of residency in order to get my driving license.

It’s not in my passport though....it’s in my filing folder at home haha.

Ok, I will make sure it gets done then.

🙏🙏
Tod *********
@Mere****
, if she did report you, you're had the TM.30 receipt in your passport ;) It looks like this (but it's filled out :) )

You won't get an extension of stay on that ED visa at the Chiang Mai immigration office without having filed a TM.30 :/ So when you do come back make sure she or you goes and files it.

We are in Mae Rim Chiang Mai

I’m 90% sure my land lord reported us when we first arrived.

She is really good about that kind of stuff so I suppose I will let let her know I’m leaving and coming back....then see what she says.

Thanks again
Tod *********
@Mere****
, depending on where you live SOME immigration offices require that you (or your landlord) file a TM.30 form within 24 hours of arriving at an address where you're gonna stay.

In Bangkok the immigration office doesn't care about it BUT other immigration offices most definitely do care about it and people have been fined 1600baht for not having filed a TM.30

Another question....would I have to “report in” to immigration at all when I come back? I’m leaving on a Tourist Visa and coming back on an ED visa....should I notify my landlord? I was thinking “no” but I suppose I’m not 100%

Thanks? Also if you want, I can make a new post for this so anyone with the same question can see.

Thank you very much

@Mere****
, you'll get stamped out with just the triangle exit stamp and this stamp written in thai

And I’m leaving from suvarnabhumi
Tod *********
@Mere****
, nope, won't hurt your application for another visa at all.
Meredith *********

My flight out is 7am on the 23rd....so yeah, it’s an over stay by 7 hours.

Would it cause a problem when applying for another visa?

I’m headed to KL to apply for an ED Visa

ALL extensions no matter the length of time are the same price 1900 baht
