TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a potential overstay issue since their visa allows them to stay until March 31, 2024, and their return flight is scheduled for April 1, 2024. Various community members provided suggestions including obtaining a 30-day visa extension for 1,900 baht, paying a 500 baht fine for a one-day overstay, and sharing personal experiences of having no issues when overstaying by a day. Some recommended staying at the airport on the last day to avoid potential problems. Advice varied on how seriously immigration treats minor overstays, but many emphasized that avoiding overstaying is the best practice to prevent future complications.
Lindsay ********
No problem you are allowed 1 day over. But no more. I experienced it. It will be all ok 4u.

Here you can buy fake tickets for 48 hours for only 10$
Henrik *****
What good should that do, in this connection.
Felix *******
I can't wrap my head around privileged-passport holders (eg. Norway) not planning their bookings and travel/exit dates to avoid overstays.

I know it could happen sometimes, but it should be a rare because the small issue is preventable by just counting dates on the calendar before buying tickets. How else can one express that overstaying a tourist visa in any country is something you don't want as a record on your passport. Especially, you don't want any record of overstay in a country like Thailand, because most visitors will want to visit again before this passport expire.

So, the proper solution is to go to immigration and get an extension stamp. But well, you can take that record of overstay too at the airport. That's up to one's personal choice based on how much privilege one has.
Chris ************
My friend a lady over stayed a day, no fine, no stamp. Smile say sorry, you didn't realise the extra day. Enjoy your holiday
Don *****
You’ll be fine leaving one day after the expiration.
Roger **********
@Don ****
. possibly Don. However, I was let off for 2 days over. (30 day free entry) Signalled through by a Supervisor. Can depend on the reasons and sympathetic staff, how busy they are. 3 days would be pushing the envelope though>
Scott *********
Hang around at the departure gate for 24 hours after passing through immigration on the 31st.
John ********
Arrive very late on your last day...be a departure hall resident for most of the day..

Or pay 1900 baht extension

Or pay 500 baht overstay 1 day
Colin ***************
Pay 500baht at the airport.
Hristo ***********
If you dont plan to buy elite visa later just overstay, 500thb/day. Otherways you can extend for 30 days or if you already did you have a final extension of 7 days, each is 1900 thb. I personally did overstay for shhort periods few times and didnt have any problem and even did obtain an marriage visa after that, but it could be a problem for a future elite visa application.
Barry ***********
I had the same problem 1 day over stay At the airport immigration said no 500 baht fine 1 day over okay but they put a remark on my passport 2 days over you get a fine , I went to immigration to get a 1 month extension and they told me 1 day over no problem and all worked out fine for me cheers
Michael *******
keep your head down on your last day and pay B500 at airport for one day overstay
Lisa ********
Your only one day over, I did the same thing recently and it was fine, they can fine you 500 baht for each day you stay in the country.
Henrik *****
Since it was recently, you havent yet experienced, a more thoroughly inspection of your papers, the next times you are going to cross a Thai border.
Henrik *****
Because you have brokan a law, and overstayed.
Lisa ********
@Henrik ****
why would I have a thorough inspection 🧐
Alan *******
Go through outbound customs and see the time out there

Should be ok ..if not you may be charged "overstay"
Tobben ********
Husk å ha 500 bath i tilfelle tilfelle..

.
Phil ********
Don't worry about it. By the time you're at immigration it'll be less than 24hrs overstay.

At the worst it's ฿500 overstay fine.

Probably they wont do or say anything.
Robert *******
Probably just be a small fine. I think it might be easier or they might not do anything about it
Jet ********
I’m secondhand I don’t know about Norwegian how powerful your passport is I’m an American and that’s what we can do
Jet ********
You need to request a 30 day extension Visa or just leave the country and come back in and you’ll get an extra 30 days
Glyn **********
I'd just leave as planned, because I've done it a few times and just paid the tiny overstay.
Ronnie ******
Small problem.....
Liam ********
I’ve done this twice in the last few years. Immigration waved me through on both occasions with no 500 baht fine. Happens a lot im told as many travellers don’t allow for the fact that the day of arrival counts as day one
Terry ********
THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR A ONE DAY OVERSTAY AND IT HAS NOT BEEN CONSIDERED SERIOUS IN ANY WAY. I HAVE HAD AN IO AT THE AIRPORT MAKE LIGHT OF IT SAYING WITH A SMILE SOMETHING LIKE WHAT A NAUGHTY BOY YOU ARE. I HAVE DONE IT AT LEAST THREE TIMES OVER THE LAST 17 YEARS WITHOUT ANY REPERCUSSIONS SINCE APPLYING FOR OR EXTENDING VISAS.
Simon ************
Less than 24 hours no charge. I did it 6 March just got a bit of thai writing next to Exit stamp.
James *********
Pay yer 1900 and be done with it
Shahid ******************
Go to Immigration and Pay 1900 baht and 30 days extension
Renee ********
For just 1 day Overstay pay $500 baht at airport
Ally ************
Depending upon where you are travelling to.. it might be cheaper to book another flight leaving on 31 March.. or perhaps investigate switching your existing flight to one day earlier.. if the airline will allow it.
Christopher *************
Get an extension or do as Nigel suggests or something similar?

My daughter was in the same situation with exact same numbers of days conflicted. Whilst still in BKK she and I returned to the immigration office at the airport and got this answer . Several days (no greater than 3) overstayed with prove of returning tickets is allowed without any consequence. That was 5 years ago that we did it. Her passport is American’s.
Bbc *********
Check in and clear the custom on 31st and wait for your flight on 1st April
John ******
@Bbc ********
they will not check you in more then 24 hours before !
Ron *********
The stamp day counts 😂

Just pay the 500 baht fine at the airport. They are giving away a free car to the 1 millionth person who has made the same mistake as you. It's getting close to a million. You might get a car for your 500 baht. There are NO consequences other than that like others have stated. Trust me I know I'm on a first name basis with everyone at the overstay counter 😂

Remember, technically you are an illegal that last day.
Martin *********
Local immigration office and pay for the extension, it's more than the overstay fine, but no mark in the passport which could cause problems in the future.
Lee ***********
Be humble and point it out, apologise and say it was a miscalculation, if they do anything it will be the fine, like others have said its an easy mistake to make.
Roy *********
Hei Vidar jeg ser du får mange rare svar her. Sannheten er du får ingen problemer med å ha en dag overstay. Koster 500 baht og immigration har sagt det medfører ingen restriksjoner om å komme tilbake.

Jeg har gjort det selv og ingen problemer.

Henrik *****
Don’t listen to people, who encourages you to break the law, perhaps they was lucky that it didn’t have consequences for them.

If you get stopped by police and their facial recognition cameras on their cars and cctv, then it will be the last vacation in Thailand for many years.

Then a better option to do the right ting, and get a extension at the immigration.
Albert ********
500 bhat over stay
Steven ********
I had the same issue and technically overstayed one day. I mentioned at the airport immigration. I had not to pay anything and I saw in some comments on other forums that those 24 h are usually given as grace period. They might make a note in you passport however

extended answer:

In Bangkok with a tourist visa (60 days) you go to Chaengwattana - counter J, visa exempt (30 days) you go to IT Square Laksi Plaza 3rd floor, counter K.

Otherwise use your local immigration office.

You will need :-

A blue pen (some offices are pedantic about blue)

Your passport

Fill out form TM7 (available at the office)

Copy passport data page (signed by you)

Copy of entry stamp (signed by you)

Copy of your visa - either the sticker in your passport or pdf evisa (the former signed by you). * if you had one.

Copy of TM6 departure card (signed by you) *if you were issued one - if you entered by air after July ‘22 you wouldn’t have been given one so leave the space on the form blank.

Passport photo (most offices have facilities on site or nearby)

1,900 baht

Some offices may ask for a TM30, which your hotel or landlord should have filed on your behalf. A screenshot of their filing it online will generally suffice as evidence you have one - except if you use the Chiang Mai or Jomtien offices. You have to get the screenshot converted to the paper receipt from a manual TM30 filing.

go to immigration and extend for another 30 days
Mal *****
Dont think they would bother just for 1 day but if they do just pay the 500 baht it's no big deal

The big deal occurs if you are stopped by police while on overstay, even just ONE day.
Hristo ***********
@Graham *****
even if they stop you i can bet if your history is fine and you have an onward ticket for the next day all will be fine. And probability to get stopped and asked for a passport is like to win the lottary. Problems occur when you work illegally etc...

OK, you believe that, good luck
Lana ***********
Maybe fly to Malaysia and back next day?
Steve ******
Just pay the 500 THB fine for the one day overstay. This does not affect you returning as the exit stamp is just the same
Graham ******
@Steve *****
Where the affect on returning comes from is if you are stopped by the police while on overstay (even ONE day), detention, deportation and blacklisting is very serious just to save 1900B

In your country and in this country, you will be arrested if stopped for any reason, and arrested .

@Roy ********
yes they should make it extra clear on the sign. If you are subjected to a control and found on overstay (even 1 hour overstay), like a road checkpoint on the way to the airport for example, the law says you will get deported and banned for 5 years. I never heard it happen to anyone, but that's a possible consequence of a short overstay

the law said paid an other 500 to the policement who stop you

Unfortunately many come in that situation, because they not check the visarules before the they buy ticket.

That mistake will then cost 1900 baht for an extension, or a bit cheaper if discovered before departure, så there is time to apply for a 60 Day tourist visa..

As silly as it may seem for just one day, I would extend for 30 days. You lose your extra day by sitting at the immigrations office for a day, but it is better than risking being stopped by the police on that last day and being deported.
