Hi, i did i mistake with the flight from laos to thai and i realise that i’ll be one day, actually few hours overstay. I went to the immigration in koh tao and they told me just to go at the airport and pay the 500 bath fine. Is that correct?

thanks 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about a short overstay in Thailand after mistakenly booking a flight from Laos, realizing they will be a few hours late. Responses confirm that if the overstay is less than 24 hours, the user can exit without a fine, receiving just a red stamp indicating the overstay. It is advised to leave before midnight to avoid complications and to be prepared with 500 baht in cash, as it may be waived when exiting.

this is going round in circles and while I appreciate everyone's input, it is what it is, and a day overstay isn't the end of the world for anyone leaving or comin' back in to thailand

We are done

dial back the paranoia just a notch,

you're far from the first foreigner to overstay a short amount of time.

You'll be fine, all this teeth gnashing, hand wringing isn't gonna do anything to help you in the least.

Show up, stamp out, see how it goes 🙂

A single day overstay isn't gonna make you have any issues comin' back into thailand

my flight leave at 9 in the morning, so for you it’s better if I’ll pass the immigration before 12am tonight.

I’m very scared if i’m going tomorrow at 6 am they gonna stamp me something that i can not come to thailand after.

, depends on your airline and route, you may or may not be able to do check-in and/or bag-drop before midnight. Usually counters open for 3-4 hours max before the flight.

they will stamp you out mentioning overstay and that fine is waived due to less than 24 hrs.

so there's no point in me going to the airport before midnight, right? i don't mind paying the 500-baht fine, but i don't want to have repercussions.

, check with your airline if you can go in early.

With overstay stamps, you may not be able to apply Elite visa, or tourist visa at some embassy/consulate around SEA in future, visa-wise.

You should check other points on your own, there may or may not be repercussions depending on your nationality. But is not Thai visa related.

Just pass immigration before midnight and purchase an entrance in a lounge have some food, drinks relax in some lounges you can even take a nap and kill the down time that way.

... very unlikely that's possible as most check ins only open 3hrs before the flight.

what does how you came into the country have to do with you staying longer than your stamp allows?

When you entered you got in on a what ever stamp you were allowed for the number of days you were supposed to get, IF you don't leave by that time you go on overstay, plain and simple 😕

As people said if you're flying out with an overstay of under 24 hours you won't be fined just get a small stamp in thai that says, "overstay under 24 hours fine waived"

Where as if you're one minute over the 24 hour time you get fined for TWO days of overstay for 1000baht (500X2)

If your flight is indeed a few hours into overstay try to get through Immigration before midnight and you're ok. Otherwise make sure you are in the airport before midnight so less chance of getting stopped by the police. Leaving by air there is no overstay fine (just a red stamp) for overstay less than 24 hours.

Not a problem ...

And if it's ONLY one Day OVERSTAY..

The 500 Thai baht most likely will be WAIVED by the Thai Immigration Officer as you pass thru Thai Immigration on departure.

But it's good to have 500 Thai baht in CASH with you just in case you have miscounted the days.

Remember that the Day you arrive into Thailand counts as DAY #1
