What should I do if my e-visa application is causing issues because I'm flying from India instead of the UK?

I'm having trouble with my evisa and getting very concerned as I fly end of next week.

I am in India. Because I have a UK passport, the application is being processed in the UK.

Twice now I have been emailed for my flight ticket FROM THE UK. Twice I have explained I'm not flying to Thailand from the UK, but from India.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Am now really starting to freak out.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user in India, holding a UK passport, is facing difficulties with their e-visa application due to confusion regarding flight details. Despite explaining that their flight to Thailand is from India, they received repeated requests for tickets from the UK. They express anxiety about their upcoming flight and seek advice from the community. Comments from others suggest options like providing a dummy ticket, applying through the Thai embassy instead of online, or considering visa-exempt entry upon arrival. However, past experiences indicate complications when the e-visa does not align with actual travel plans.

I have the same problem as I am in Cyprus so I have to fly back to UK to get a flight to Thailand still haven't seen the visa yet and I'm flying in 1 week. Got the Thai Pass in 2 days
Eric ********
If I don't get the visa next week I will fly visa exempt
Eric ********
Problem is your Thai Pass is granted for where your flight is from
Eric ********
Thai Embassy in Cyprus told me it would take 3to6 weeks for a visa
Eric ********
@Steve *****
Not according to the Thai Embassy in UK.
Steve ******
@Eric *******
why could you not fly from Cyprus to Thailand????
Eric ********
@Steve *****
won't give me visa unless I'm traveling from UK

@Eric *******
could you not just said you were flying from the uk, or you could have got the 30 day visa exempt on arrival.
Steve *******
I guess you uploaded your proof of residence in India?
Jo *******

@Steve ******
I uploaded a credit card statement with the UK address I use.

You should be applying through the Thai embassy in the country you are in.
Marc ***********
I emailed them about a month ago as I have a UK passport but live in Germany... Here is their response :( .....
Preeda ****************
@Marc **********
Marc, I will shortly be in the same position. I am American but living in Germany. What did you need to apply as a non-German citizen at the Thai Embassy in Germany E-Visa.

Thank you for your help
Stephen ******
@Preeda ***************
reply I’m in the same exact situation. How did it go and what did you need to do?
Preeda ****************
@Stephen *****
I decided to apply next month after the Omicron uncertainty
Stephen ******
@Preeda ***************
ugh ok well I guess just sh*t out of luck
Preeda ****************
@Stephen *****
Did you try?
Stephen ******
Emiline ****
@Stephen *****
I am searching info for the same issue. Did you apply yet? Thanks!
Stephen ******
@Emiline *********
are you in Germany because my situation is that I’m American but I live in Germany but I don’t have residency. So I was trying to figure out how to apply with residency.
Emiline ****
@Stephen *****
I am Chinese staying in Turkey. Has a one-year residency permit, which is basically a long toursit visa.
Stephen ******
@Emiline *********
then all you have to do is a e-visa
Emiline ****
@Stephen *****
The evisa website says the opposite. I have to put in I am in China as well to be able to apply the evisa, but I am obviously not in China. So I don't know what to do.

I just looked for the mail but can't find it... Probably deleted it. They told me that my flight has to start in the UK also and I couldn't apply from Germany :(
Marc ***********
Germany suddenly announced 3 weeks ago that from 22nd Nov you can do it online from Germany... So I was lucky... My trip starts Dec 28th

Tomorrow I will try calling them again.
Marc ***********
@Jo ******
good luck! I have a feeling you'll need to do it at the Embassy though... How long in total is your trip?
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Marc **********
It isn't now possible to do it at an embassy.
Marc ***********
@Jo ******
I just sent you a voice message as it's easier than writing everything down
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Marc **********
I was hoping 90 days.
Marc ***********
@Jo ******
I'll send you a private message if that's ok... I had the same issue
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Marc **********
So what are you doing?
Tobie *****
@Jo ******
Worst comes to worst, just come in on a visa exempt and extend with 30 days.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Tobie ****
Yes, but I want 90! Exempt and extension would only be 30.
Tobie *****
@Jo ******
I understand, most likely (but not 100% sure) the covid extensions will keep going after
*****
because the land borders remain closed. This should give you your 90 days easy. 30 + 60 day covid .

It is likely they will continue but no guarantee (I think they will)
Bobby ********
Tobie Oud. Land borders and covid extensions are not related. The covid extensions are for people who could not return to their home countries due to covid restrictions.
Tobie *****
@Bobby *******
In my opinion they are very much related. If they were solely for countries were you cannot return home, they they would only give them to people from those countries. Due to the closed borders, visa runs are not an option anymore, so keeping tourist in the country for a longer period can only be done with the covid extension.

This is just my opinion of course and you are free to disagree. Wl'll see what happens.

@Tobie ****
I have a feeling I will have no choice but to do this!
Steve ******
Could you not go on the 30 day visa exempt on arrival then renew for a further 30 days?
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *****
I need 90 days! But it would be a last resort. I will attempt to call them later.
Steve ******
@Jo ******
please let us know
Jo *******

@Steve *****
Alarm is set to remind me to try as soon as they get back from lunch. But am really worried now.
Steve ******
@Jo ******
A friend of mine tried from Goa and never got the e visa, he went in person to Mumbai and got it.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *****
Did he get it the same day?
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *****
I was originally going to courier everything to Mumbai, but they said it takes nearly 3 weeks. Then I found out evisas could be done.

It's a pain because the VFS office in Goa is closed.
Steve ******
@Jo ******
yes i know, but strange him then you could not get an e visa, must be because you are in india.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *****
Did your friend get the visa from Mumbai same day?
Steve ******
@Jo ******
Not the same day, but got it.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Steve *****
I can't afford to stay in Mumbai! Would you mind asking him how long it took please?
Steve ******
@Jo ******
i will but it will take time as hes not on fb and hardly checks his e mail.
Michael ********
When I just tried e visa website it says UK passport holders in India have to apply at embassy. This is why i suggested trying with a dummy ticket. Otherwise you need to go apply at embassy
Emiline ****
@Michael *******
Have you did this yourself? I am debating applying from the embassy or online with a dummy ticket. Thanks!
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Michael *******
I put UK for permanent residence, not India.
Michael ********
@Jo ******
Yes think the form is as clear as mud, even though say permanent residence/current location think its refering to current location. Although e visa shouldnt matter Thai logic at its best.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Michael *******
I think it's too late to suddenly give a new ticket. Already spent a fortune. (I have to leave India, so not really a choice).

I'd also be really nervous at immigration in India and Thailand if they realised the visa had the wrong flight details.
Michael ********
@Jo ******
Your flight details are not on your visa.

Flight details are only on Thailandpass.

Officially as you are in India you cannot apply for e visa.

The visa is valid for 3 months.

No problem for immigration once you have visa.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Michael *******
So, I would need a fresh application. I don't think they would accept it now they have the India ticket and I've spelt it out to them.
Garrett ***********
@J*
Then don't use it. Stay in India...
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Garrett **********
That isn't an option.
Michael ********
@Jo ******
Personally i think best two options are.

A) Get a dummy ticket UK to Thailand as that what they have asked for. I had not same problem but similar recently and it involved me buying cheap ticket out even though they knew i had no intention of using it. Sent it in Ten minutes later i got my COE

B) Come in on visa exempt you get 60 days total. Borders are starting to open Cambodia flight only this week, Myanmar land crossings maybe December 1st and take it from there
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Michael *******
I put a UK address as permanent residence.
Emiline ****
@Jo ******
How did it work out for you? I am in the same situation now. Did you get the evisa and fly from India? Thanks a lot!
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Emiline *********
Nope. I got rejected because my flight wasn't from the UK. Ended up with a stamp on arrival.
Emiline ****
@Jo ******
Ouch, I am sorry.
Michael ********
@Jo ******
these dummy tickets are about 10 dollars
Bobby ********
What visa are you applying for?
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Bobby *******
60-day tourist.
Bobby ********
Jo Keene. That shouldn't present any problems. I suggest you do what
@Michael *******
suggests. Rent a dummy ticket. That'll keep the system happy.
Jo *******
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Bobby *******
But I already submitted my application with a ticket from India. And have explained in email where I am.

I wouldn't get away with it.
Bobby ********
Jo Keene. I guess your only course of action is to apply through the embassy there, as evisa is not available in India
Michael ********
Why dont you get a dummy ticket.

@Michael *******
I submitted my flight India-Thailand already.

Flying end of next week.
Bobby ********
Jo Keene. You've already got the Thailand Pass?
Ivan ***********
They don't care at all. Don't expect from them any support.
Jo *******

@Ivan **********
But it's an evisa application. It shouldn't matter where I am located.
Ivan ***********
@Jo ******
23 documents, condo on my name in Thailand, return flight ticket, insurance paid, quarantine hotel paid, money in the bank 10x more than required, one hour interview... And, the answer was, if you want to invest in Thailand, we will give you a visa.
Jo *******

@Ivan **********
I only want a tourist visa! Have spent about two of the last five years in Thailand.

Visas were always so simple!

Bloody Covid times!
Ivan ***********
Or, this in Colombia
Ivan ***********
@Jo ******
I have to choose between watching this in Thailand...
Ivan ***********
@Jo ******
I spent 10 of the last 12 year's in Thailand. I was asking only for a tourist visa. Now enjoying my time in Colombia.
