Why do some Thai immigration offices issue an 'under consideration' stamp for visa extensions instead of an immediate extension?

Can someone answer me this .

When you go and get an extension on your visa

Some offices they give you the stamp for extension but others give you under consideration and you have to go back ...

Why do they give you the "under consideration stamp ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 'under consideration' stamp on visa extensions in Thailand often depends on the workload of the immigration office and the specific type of extension requested. For certain extensions, such as those due to COVID-19, the office may need to verify eligibility before granting the extension. Additionally, different immigration offices, especially between urban and rural areas, sometimes apply varying standards. Ultimately, decisions can vary based on the officer handling the application.

Basically, it's because this is Thailand and there are no set rules. Everything is up to the immigration officer that gets your passport on their desk, on the particular day you go to immigration.

The system is ancient, broken and there is no change in sight. Viva Thailand 0.5 🥳

Unfortunately, immigration offices seem to all have differing rules. From posts I have read in the past it seems the “country” offices do things different than the city offices.

always have had and always will have. It is the nature of immigration. That is why it is always best to go to your own immigration office and ask their requirements.

Depends on the immigration office workload, and the type of extension you're getting. For the 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, in theory they need to review the application to confirm you qualify for the extension of stay. For a one year extension of stay based on marriage, the immigration office may come and confirm the husband and wife are living together.

It doesn't happen with "retirement" extensions.

happened to me last year, but this year in and out and stamped in for another year, retirement visa also

Colin Rouse. That's strange, you'd normally only get an under consideration if you're switching to a retirement visa in-country, not for an extension

it happened to me once, the boss was at a meeting in Bangkok and couldn't sign the extension stamp. They stamped under consideration 15 days. He came back the following day and I got the 1-year extension.
