TLDR : Answer Summary
To cancel your ED visa in Chiang Mai, you will need at least your passport and a cancellation letter from your training school. It is advisable to handle the cancellation a few weeks beforehand to avoid rushing, as you will need to either leave the country on the same day or obtain a 7-day extension for a fee if you're cancelling on the day of your visit to the immigration office.
You shouldn't have a problem canceling the current ED extension you're on with the documentation from the school. Remember if you're canceling it on the date you go to the immigration office you need to either leave the country that day OR buy a 7 day extension denied stamp to get out of thailand in a week for 1900baht.
Most people take the letter from their school to the immigration office a few weeks before the date they are stopping studying so that the office cancels their current extension AND stamps them in until the date on the termination of studying paperwork from the school. That way you have time to leave the country without being in a rush.
thanks a lot. The date one the letter is Oct 2nd and I will leave on Oct 1. So should all be good. I am off to Vientiane to change to Non-B to obtain work permit
thanks. I have a letter like that. Did you need anything else? Does it take as long as visa extension? Like do I need to get up at 4am to get a number?
