Hi! I'm due to cancel my ED visa in the coming days. Someone told me that once I cancelled the visa, I only have to leave the country on the date stated in the letter, which can be a later date than the concellation date. How many days leeway are acceptable between cancelling the visa and leaving on the later date stated on the cancellation letter?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When cancelling an ED visa, the user can typically stay in Thailand until the date stated on the cancellation letter provided by the school. However, some immigration offices may cancel the visa on the day of application, potentially requiring the individual to purchase a 7-day extension to comply with exit regulations.
obviously you can't get any more time than you're stamped in for
Most people get the letter from the school stating they stop studying on xxx date (usually the last day of their extension) and they go to the immigration office a few weeks before that date to cancel the extension and immigrations will stamp you in until the date on the letter.
SOME offices cancel it the day you show up no matter what the letter from the school says and they make you BUY a 7 day extension denied stamp for 1900baht that gives you a week to get out of the country
