Hi! Happy Songkran! My ED visa extension expires next month. Do I need to cancel it at immigration before I leave? If I have to cancel it, how long do I have before I must leave?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To cancel your ED visa extension before leaving Thailand, it is not necessary if you are not returning on another visa. However, if you plan to return and apply for another type of visa, you should obtain a document from your school confirming your last study date and visit the immigration office about a week prior to your departure to formally cancel the extension.
Nope, if you're going to leave thailand and not come back on anything but a tourist visa or free entry, just leave.
However,
If you're going to come back and get any other visa in thailand, then you get a document from your school that says you stop studying on xxx date (usually the last day your extension is valid for or the date you're leaving the country)
You go to the immigration office that issued that extension about a week or so before that date, they will cancel your extension and stamp you in until the termination of study date on the paper from the school.
Then you can stamp out and as the extension is already canceled it won't cause you any issue down the road ๐
again with the knowledge. Where would we be without Todgoole ๐

Thanks Tod. I'm not planning to come back immediately, but I would like to leave the option open to apply for another type of visa at some point in the future.
