Hello, I'm currently at Ranong border checkpoint and I need a quick info.

I just changed passport because the previous one was full, I have both passports with me.

They say they can't stamp me out on the new passport and I have to go immigration office first.

Can anybody confirm about that?

I'm not on any extension of stay.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user at the Ranong border encountered issues with transferring their visa stamp to a new passport. They were informed that they must visit an immigration office before being stamped out of Thailand. Community responses confirmed that it is usually necessary to transfer the stamp from the old passport to the new one at immigration prior to traveling. The process is described as complicated, often requiring multiple trips, documentation such as copies of the old passport pages, proof of funds, and sometimes a travel itinerary. There is a mention of increased requirements at this border post-COVID, including cash and proof of accommodation.

What country is your passport? Does that make any difference or does everyone have to transfer before they leave?

New passports and visa transfers are routine in nearly every other country but quite complicated here for some reason.

You should have checked before you left Daniela

That's not always easy.

Did you know of these extra requirements at the Ranong border of airline ticket etc?

@Jody ******
no but I would have found out before I traveled to the border.

it's the 3 'proof ofs' that being 20k cash, onward ticket and proof of address. It's pretty standard and been mentioned more than once

I did a border bounce at Ranong in March this year and I wasn’t asked for proof of savings or address.

Maybe because I have a non o visa they don’t require do you think?

not proof of savings as in money in bank, they want you to have 20k cash in hand and take a picture of it, I also have non o

this is a first because all the border bounces I’ve done over the many years I’ve never been asked for this.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing

A flight ticket isn't a "pretty standard" requirement. At an airport, maybe, but land border/river crossing it's not normal.

I remember hearing Ranong needed the extra stuff when they re-opened not so long ago, but it surprises me they persist with the extra requirements. Before covid I never had to show more than a passport there.

It's good people are bringing it up again to update that people should be prepared though.

3 proof of has been mentioned on more than one occasion

Yes, we know that. In rare cases they may be needed at land borders, I'm just saying - they aren't "standard requirements". I'm just pointing out language accuracy here!

How many times have you been asked to show the three proofs at land/river border crossings & over how many years/crossings?

Again, not disputing they can be asked for, but just the claim it's "standard". Maybe it's standard currently in Ranong, but the border there hasn't been open long & it wasn't like that before covid so it's a bit much to claim everyone should know it's "standard".

Thanks all for the answers, I'll write how it has gone in case someone interested.

It took 2 trips to immigration office to make them transfer my stamp, copies of every single page of my old passport, 1 trip to atm to withdraw 20k, fake air ticket, proof of address, wasted all morning just to get stamped out of Thailand.

Then the boat is 100-200 one way, stamp service in Myanmar 500.

Wanted to try once but I won't repeat and I'd advise against this option.

It doesn't sound too bad.

It's a shame the Ranong immigration office isn't next to the boat pier, but it's pretty close anyway.

Was the airline ticket a requirement to be allowed to cross out into Myanmar & then be let back into Thailand?

sad to hear you had a bad experience. For many it’s the opposite. Yes that border crossing has its quirks (you need a crisp $10 note for the other side) but for many it works well -especially those from Phuket or Samui looking for a quick border bounce.
Nigel *********
I wouldn't waste time asking here. If that's what they said then that's what you have to do.

Just renewed mine has to go to the same I O that the last stamp was entered in your old passport

If you haven't transferred your stamp, it cannot be done at a land border.

but u can flying? correct?

@Richard ********
the airport can do more than a land border

Normally you take new passport and have stamp/visa transfered to the new passport from old passport at immigration before you travel.

There is a (very small) Thai immigration office a few hundred meters from the pier. If that office can't help you, you'll need to go to a bigger one.
